Costco fans, is it worth a 1/2 hour drive?

I'm another one who will vouch for Costco over BJs or Sam's.

Costco carries higher quality goods.

The BJs that are here in NJ are not very nice compared to Costco.

The BJs in Florida are much nicer, but still can't compare to Costco IMO.

I think the BJ's in Paramus is a lot nicer then the Costco in Hackensack - The store seems pretty clean and organized and I like the Deli Counter.

All of the Costco's I've shopped in are clean. Where did you find a dirty Costco? I want to make sure I don't go there.

I usually go to the ones in E. Hanover, Bridgewater, Union, Wharton and Wayne because they all carry different things.

I am wondering the same thing.. I work off and on as a vendor at the Wharton one.

My 2 cents: We drove to a Costco's that is maybe 40 or so minutes away. It didn't help that there was major construction in the town Costco is in, so it delayed our getting there and was a PITB, but otherwise, we did make it there. We walked around with some kind of free day pass, don't remember the details. We walked out without buying a thing. We have 2 Sam's about 10 minutes from our house and didn't see much of a difference at all. Same basic concept, but I felt prices at Costco were more $. I think we expected more because some people really do love their Costco, but we got there and thought "what's the big deal?"

Anyways, just my opinion...good luck...

When our Costco opened about 4-5 years ago, they offered free one year memberships. I think you had to sign up in the first month they were open. It would be worth checking out.

Our Costco and Sams are about the same distance from our house (15 minute drive). We have a business Sams membership so we can get into the store at 7 or 8 am which makes it more worthwhile for me than Costco. The membership is also $35 vs $50 at Costco.

I love Costco for their clothes, books and children's toys at Christmas. They have a much better selection. I go with my brother and shop as his guest.

But for the everyday stuff and food, I go to Sams.

I have been a member of both and find Costco is far superior to Sam's - cleaner, better selection, nicer employees, etc.

I LOVE Costco! Our closest one is 2.5 hrs away, and we'll be going next weekend! They have great photo printing (much better than Sam's or Walmart), and I always download my pix before leaving town, and pick them up when I get there! I so wish we had one around here. :sad1:

Fortunately for us DH's work gives us free memberships to both. Costco is farther away but has brands that we like, and I love their fresh produce section. Having said that if I was paying for a membership I'd choose Sam's since it's cheaper and still has great deals.

I love my cosco! Cheaper gas, better selection and a clean store. the Sams club by me is dark and if they can't make the store bright they are hiding something, and I hope it is not in the meat!

This is my situation almost exactly, I get membership to both clubs through my job and I really like both of them. I don't know where all these dirty Sam's Clubs are, the ones around me are fine.

Sam's tends to have better clearance then Costco (you have to look for items ending in a penny, like .81...Costco's clearance ends in .97), especially in clothes. Plus Sam's has more locations and is closer to me then Costco.

However, I love Costco's meat and bakery department. I also like their selection of merchandise better then Sam's. I go to Costco probably every 2 months or so, and Sam's a couple times a month. I don't buy many groceries at either store unless they're on clearance.

The BJ's in Paramus is a ghost town. The Costco in Hackensack is the busiest in NJ. Can't really say it is dirty, maybe just more congested than the BJ's. The quality of Costco meats/deli/bakery is far superior to BJ's.

I miss Costco's relocated from Long Island and miss Costoc's! Well worht the trip and bring a cooler to bring home your meats and veggies in!

Don't forget to go whent ehy have all those great samples out!!! ITS FREE ITS ME!!
