Has anyone else used Costco for booking DCL? I booked through Disney, but then called Costco. We saved about 20%, and then upgraded our cabins.

I used Costco for our 10/18/03 cruise. I got a catagory 9 room for about $900 per person which I thought was really good. I also got a $100 stateroom credit for booking w/ them before 4/30/03.

I book our cruises directly through DCL. Then, at a later date, I call Costco and they take over the reservation and take 10% off the cruise fare. Their agents have told me that they basically rebate the TA commission to their members.

I have not ever (with three bookings) received an onboard credit on top of this (except from the castaway club and the old AMEX platinum plan).

We used them 2 years ago and again for the upcoming cruise. They were initially about $200-$300 cheaper than any other quote I received. I had no problems at all using them.

When I was looking at prices a few months ago for our August cruise, Costco was pretty much the same as DU (when you take into account the credits DU was offering) All Seasons was cheaper than either by a few hundred dollars, so I booked with them.

Costco discount is 10% off Disney's "list" prices. I think above person was right that it may be their commissions.. but when you call and ask - they tell you right out - 10% off disney cost.

Serena6010 I booked 2 Disney Cruises in Feb. of this year with Costco using a regular membership (Gold Star) and I don't recall anything about a $100. onboard credit being offered. Before I call them and be placed hold on for 20-30 minutes waiting to speak with someone could you tell me if you have an Executive Membership with them and maybe that why you got the $100. onboard credit.
Thanks Ginger

Our Cruise through Costco for 2 adults and 1 child is about $1500 less than Disney Direct and $700 (after rebates) less than DU.

Almost enough to pay for the airfare!

(and once we take the cruise I will use some of the savings to become a Disboards sponsor)

No, I'm not an executive member. When I booked in April....I saw the special on the costco website. It said that if a disney cruise was booked before 4/30/03 then a $100 shipboard credit would be given. I believe this was only for 7 day cruises before 12/03 though.($50 for shorter cruises)

I believe the Costco discounts are 10% for an outside stateroom and 5% for an inside stateroom (before taxes, fees, etc.). While I didn't love the long waits on the phone to talk with an agent, it was worth using Costco for the savings - it was cheaper than both DCL and DU, at least for a 7-day in Feb. 2003 for 2 adults.

We are currently booked through DCL for December of 2004. When should I call Costco and switch my reservations to receive their discount?

Thanks for your advise.

I think you can do it at any time. I don't know if there is a good reason NOT to do it sooner rather than later.

I, too booked through Costco for our July Magic cruise. I called them on Mon. to demand my 100$ credit and after one hour of holding, talking and waiting was informed that the offer was for FALL cruises booked before 4/03 only. Hope this prevents anyone not sailing in the Fall from the maddness that is Costco Travel!

They occasionally offer a onboard credit for specific sailings and booking by a certain date. You will not get an onboard credit though if you already booked onboard got the $200.00 credit. I had called when I transferred mine and Costco said they could not be combined. "Hey I tried".

DARWIN91:

Did you save a decent amount of money when you transferred? When did you originally book, then transfer? Thanks for the information.

I have my second cruise booked with Costco and am amazed ath the comments I see. I Have had nothing but wonderful service and attention from Costco. I have not spent hours on hold but have been quickly and well served.

The second cruise was transferred from DU to Costco. I needed to have DU send a fax to DCL releasing the reservation which DU was gracious enough to do.

I am amazed at the person who called and demanded a room credit. This are typically done by Disney, not DU or Costco, it is there version of a sale. While we would all love every discount, credit and offer made to others, we need to recognize that there are qualifiers which need to be met.

I have found great savings with Costco and am happy I am using them.

Is there time restriction when booking w/ Costco?

What I mean is can I book a cruise 2 or 3 years from now or within 30 days?

DisneyFamilyofFour- it was 10% off whatever you booked with Disney. I had booked my cruise onboard in May 2002
and switched to Costco sometime the following month. I heard that you can transfer it anytime. The balance is due 75 days before as opposed to the normal 60 days before.
