Have you bought the citypass tickets from costco before???

I just purchased my southern california citypasses from costco. i took the cardboard advertisements up to the register where I paid for them and then someone went into the back and brought out the actual passes to me. they are a plastic credit card type card and say "these tickets have no value until activated". They never scanned these cards at the register, so my question is, are these activated??? Do they activate them all before they bring them out? I didnt even think of this until I got home. I liken it to a gift card or phone card where they ring them through the register individually and the card upc number shows on the reciept. Since they ring up the cardboard ad and not the actual ticket they dont actually activate them that way. Hope this makes sense. I just dont want to get to Disney and be told that they are not activated or paid for yet since i just paid 1300.00 dollars for them. Has anyone buy these from Costco before and have the same experience???

I'm not 100% sure as I've never bought them, but I've been looking into getting them. I believe they aren't activated until you go to the parks. Then after that you have so many days to use all the passes to the various places. If they activated them at the store, the clock would start ticking at that point on the days of use.

I believe they have to be used first and activiated at Disneyland. I think you have to go to ticket booth and everything is done there.

Good luck and have fun. Anybody know if this is actually correct? This is just my understanding :)

They probably have to activate them on a system that's only located in the back office... these aren't your typical gift cards that you find at the local supermarket that is activated at the register.

I do not believe you have to go to the Disneyland Resort first, you can start at any of the attractions that are part of the CityPass package. At the Disneyland Resort (I don't know how the other attractions do things, but it's probably the same way) you can go straight to the turnstile of whichever Park you want to start with and they can scan it there.

Thanks for the replies! The reason i got worried is that they are packaged as if they could just hang from a display and have 2 barcodes, one detachable and one that is on the card- both with the same upc number. When it said on the paper around it that is has no value until activated I worried because it better have value cause i just paid a small fortune for these things. my husband agrees that they must have been activated in the back. I'll keep my reciept with me and hope for the best. I tend to worry a lot when planning trips. Thanks again!

We used the CityPass for our trip last September but we were given a booklet with cardstock like tickets. Each attraction would then scan the barcode on the paper ticket and Disneyland actually took the ticket. Costco never dated the booklet and we went to San Diego Zoo first and they didn't date it either. It is supposed to work that you have 14 days from the first day of use to use them. I bet the barcode on the plastic cards work the same as my paper barcodes and they are scanned at each attraction. Are the barcode #s all the same? If so then perhaps they are linked in a system and once the first barcode is scanned your 14 days begins.

Hope this makes sense. :-)

CostCo no longer uses the CityPass booklets and have moved to a plastic ticket card. That one ticket card is good for all the attractions included with the CityPass. This is a CostCo only initative with no word on when it'll be rolled out to the attractions themselves... I'm assuming CostCo is the test.

really? wow. So if you buy the citypass on the citypass website or at a park you still get vouchers and not the plastic card? That is very interesting. I was really happy with the price they were at costco. ;)

We used the Costco CityPasses in April and had no problems with them. I bought them through Costco online so I wasn't able to see if they were scanned before they were put in the mail to us.

You just go to each park's turnstile and give them your pass. We had no problems but I was worried the entire trip that one of us would lose our card (which didn't happen).

You don't have to visit the parks in a certain order (we started with Universal). At Disney, they'll give you paper Disney tickets after scanning the CityPass card. I don't remember if they did that at any of the other parks but we only visited the other parks for one day--Disney is for three days.

I don't know if you need the bottom part of the card for the first park you visit to activiate your card but we took ours off after the first park visit.

Enjoy!

Oh, one more thing, which park are you visiting in San Diego? We went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park and it was spectacular. I haven't been to the zoo in probably 10 years but I didn't like it much (it might be better now) but I LOVED the Wild Animal Park. Unfortunately, we weren't able to spend much time there.

If you don't mind my asking, how much were the passes through Costco? I don't belong to Costco, but my friend, who is going with me in August, does. If they are even a little cheaper, we can get the passes through them.

They were alot cheaper-I bought them in April and didnt pay s/h so they were $227 each. I think they usually go elsewhere for $259

Because I do worry so much, I did email citypass asking to be sure. So for anyone else, here is the answer:

Dear Annjanette,

All Costco cards are activated by Disneyland before they arrive at the stores. I'm sure you'll not have any problems. Have a great time and thanks for choosing CityPass!

CityPass Information
CityPass, Inc.27 Arrow Root Ln. Victor, ID 83455888.330.5008 Toll Free208.787.4306 Fax info@citypass.com

So the passes at costco are already activated. probably why they keep them locked up ;)
