Can anyone verify that if you use the Costco code you must stand in line and show your card?

It only saves me $6 off my (already amazing) reservation. If we have to stand in line instead of being able to go to the kiosk, it's not worth it.

TIA.

no you can use the kiosk and you do not have to stand in line. I have never even been asked for my card. Hope this helps

Thanks so much!

I think maybe I will keep both reservations. If the cheap one doesn't work, I will have the other to fall back on.

I was not only asked for my COSTCO card (PHX) but the card was swiped so they could capture my membership number.

I used a Costco code last May (and other prior trips) for an Alamo rental and wasn't asked to show or scan my card. This was at the counter and the kiosk. This may have changed since then...

FYI, I should mention that my Costco card is a separate card. I understand that you can now get an AMEX credit card from Costco that's also used as your membership card. Maybe that's why Lewisc had his card swiped?

I have used my costco card to book with both Alamo and National probably 5 times and I have never been asked to show my membership card.

So if you use the Costco ID and are not a member and they ask to see your ID (which you obviously do not have) what would then happen?

i was there in may used the kiosk and wasn't asked for costco card at exit booth, must be how the attendant feels that day

AS a Costco member, I wish they DID ask to see the card at car rental places.... but I have never been asked to show it (yet).

OR, when you book the reservation, you should need to enter the membership # to book it, Enterprise was like this, not sure if it still is. (this would be better, as there would be no surprises at the rental counter, plus it would cover Costco members who forgot to take their card on a vacation).

I have a separate COSTCO card.

I wasn't able to use a kiosk. I don't think they had been installed in PHX at the time of my rental. It was a one way rental (drop off at LAS) and I used a coupon. I couldn't use online check in.

edited to add--I asked why they were swiping my COSTCO card. He said it was to capture my membership number. I asked what would have happened if I didn't bring my card. He said they'd make a phone call and get it. My rate was good, considering the drop charge, but it wasn't outrageously low.

Maybe PHX was a test and not enough non-members were using the member rate to be worth the trouble.

The COSTCO rate includes an extra driver.

When you use the kiosk and go to the exit booth, we only ask for your license and the credit card you used to book the reservation, unless you use a debit card then we will ask you for your return flight information. If you add a driver, we will ask to see that person's license. We go by what is printed on the bottom of the printout you get at the kiosk. I have yet to see it ask for a costco card, but, if it wanted it, you can bet, regardless of how I feel that day, I will ask for it and if you cannot produce it, I will call management and see what the procedure will be.

Best advice, if you are not entitled to the discount, don't take it.

I have never been asked for number from any rental co anywhere. Yes I am/was a member.
