I seen that the Fantasy will only be in port at Costa Maya for 5 hours. Any idea what excursions will be offered for that short time slot??

Five hours? It looked like 3 hours and 45 minutes to me, unless DCL increased the port time in the past 4 days.

I did a private excursion to the Chacchoben Ruins with Ivan and David in 2005 that was wonderful. There's no way you could do something like that if DCL is in port such a short time.

**I see the port time is now 12:45-5:30 - so you have basically 4 hours and 15 minutes until you need to be back onboard the ship - 30 minutes before it sails.

Where did you find info on the amount of time in port? I've been looking but all the "7-day Western" info is for the Magic and therefore does not have Costa Maya.

I was in Costa Maya this past Feb on a road trip so we had a car. This used to be one of the MOST remote places in all of Mexico and so it's no suprise there's not much there. It's best to think of this as a beach stop. There are all manner of water activities (parasailing, jet ski rental, snorkeling/diving) beach massages, beach 'club' chairs with eager waiters. They have built a very cute boardwalk area with shops and bars (where the seats at the bar are swings) but otherwise there is not much here.

Check prices for April 2012 or later on the Fantasy, and then click on itinerary.

Costa Maya is a man-made port for the town of Majahual. The Chacchoben Ruins are almost an hour inland from the port: http://www.chacchobenruins.com/

I was told by the rebooking agent this am on the wonder that the port time is actually 11-6

Has there been any more info turned up about possible Costa Maya excursions?

I'm starting to think about my Fantasy cruise, even though it's more than a year away.

Since the Fantasy spends so little time in port there, I'm wondering if it will be worth it to try any excursions? Seems like whatever they do offer will likely be rushed, and I don't like being rushed while on vacation.

We were in Costa Maya on a NCL cruise in March and just took a cab to the local beach (Malahaul sp???). In advance we had contacted Steve Uhl who runs the Tropicante restaurant and bar right on the beach. He reserved lounge chairs and umbrellas for us and we had an amazing time. We actually had several other families with us and he treated us like royalty.

The beach is beautiful and easy to get to by cab. When you exit the Costa Maya terminal there will be a taxi stand. Just say you want to go to Malahual. I can't remember the cost of the cab ride but it was cheap. When you get off the cab just go to the boardwalk and turn right. Tropicante is just a couple of blocks down. Steve's crew wears yellow shirts and they will get you all set up. The food is great!

We had a great Western cruise on the Pearl and lounging at Steve's place was a highlight. I posted a link to Steve's site.

subscribing..... I noticed they have nothing on port adventures for Costa Maya yet I know Disney has been there before. Can't wait to sail on the Fantasy there, but would like to have an idea of what to book before December when our time opens up.

We loved Costa Maya, check out Costa Maya Cruise Excursions excellent tours. The all inclusive beach break is amazing but not sure if you can drink enough margaritas and eat enough fish tacos in that much time:-)

We had friends that did the atv tour and they loved that and you can do snorkeling catamaran tours that are shorter as well.

Sad that you don't get more time in a great port

On our cruise in September the Magic is stopping in Costa Maya from about 1 - 5. With such a short time there we are just planning to take a taxi to Majahual and hang out on the beach and look around. Are there any shops in Majahual that are worth going to or is it just a beach and restaurant spot?

Just look at the Port Adventures on the DCL web site, you choose the port and all available excursions are displayed. I just was looking at this week, because I interested in a western crusie in 2013, so I was looking at the excursions. The DCL websites has all the information, including length of excursion, cost and what is to be expected on the excursion.

Good Luck!:thumbsup2
