Man, the way these trips grow and grow... :rolleyes1

Short backstory: Originally planned a trip for past October for F&W with no future plans. In between the time we bought MYW tickets and the time we left for FL we ended up booking 9 nights for this upcoming June for SWW. I did the math and realized rather than buy a second set of tickets for the June trip, we were better off upgrading to DVC-APs. Did that on 9/30 and got APs with a 9/30/11 expiration.

Now: We're heading out to DLR in August for the D23 Expo. I started loking at pricing for 6-day PHs out there and it got me thinking - what about the Premier Pass? Since this will be before our WDW APs expire, I'm curious what the cost would be to upgrade. Some things I saw said it would be the difference between regular WDW APs, and some said that the DVC APs were "special" in that they maintain their lower value when traded in. Trying to figure out if it's cheaper to upgrade or pay for 6-Day DL PHs.

Has anyone here actually done that and can confirm what pricing they actually paid at the time of upgrade? (We currently have "Basic" DVC APs - no Premium).

I don't remember the exact price but I think I paid over $300 for the upgrade.

If it's based on the DVC pricing, it "should" be $301 + tax. 6-Day DL PHs are $216 ($211 from ARES), so DW and I will have to decide if it's worth the difference to get DL discounts and the equivalent of unlimited WPF&M access). Well at least I have until our trip in June to decide. I just hope DL doesn't have any more "sales" in the meantime...

The DVC APs are a category of tickets with their own price point. If you upgraded to a Premier Pass they would credit you the price you paid for the DVC AP.

Okay, quick follow-up since I'm trying to spreadsheet things out now. Appreciate if anyone can help:

I know the "rough" numbers I have are $700 for the Premier Pass and $399 for the DVC AP I currently have. How does tax factor into all of this? I need to spell out everything as exact as I can for DW and when we're talking about 2x $700 passes, tax is going to be quite a factor. Are $399/$700 the pre or post tax costs? Thanks...

Okay, so here's the math I have (since I hear only half of the Premier Pass is taxed). Sound right?

Premier Pass $722.15
Current WDW AP Value $424.94
===============
Cost to Upgrade $297.21
OR
6-Day DLR Hopper
(ARES Travel)" $213.00

I did this kind of upgrade a couple months ago in DL. I had the WDW DVC AP, purchased a 5 day DL hopper from Getawaytoday for $187, and my receipt from DL for the Premier upgrade is $105.81. So the out of pocket cost on top of the DVC AP was $292.81 for me.

Don't forget that at DL the Premier pass will get you 20% off merchandise all kinds of places and 15% off food at all kinds of restaurants (it's treated like the DL Premier/Deluxe or whatever the top DL AP is called). Your DVC membership will get you 10% off most of the same places.

Tax is on the Florida portion. We don't tax tickets here in California.

I believe I paid the $722.15 for my Premier pass. But remember, if you are upgrading a DVC annual pass, they will credit you what you actually paid, not the 'value' of the pass. I haven't had a DVC AP for awhile, so I don't remember how much they are.

If you are on the fence between upgrading to the Premier or getting the DLR hopper pass, I would go with the Premier. At Disneyland you get good discounts with the AP. There is no TiW discount. As stated above, it's @ 20% on merchandise and 15% on food. I think the DVC discount is around 10% and not available everywhere. Plus remember, if you have more trips to WDW, your pass now includes the water parks, Oak Trail Golf and DisneyQuest. Of course, if that doesn't interest you, then you might prefer to just get the DLR hoppers.
Enjoy your trip!

Yeah, at the moment it seems like this will be the deciding thing for DW as we're looking at ~ $80/person to upgrade over just hoppers in DLR. If we were to upgrade, we would be doing it at the beginning of the trip (in 10 days! ). It's going to come down to if DW is in the mood to do the water parks while we're down there (which neither of us have done before, but being June in FL I'm hopeful that she'll decide to do BB and/or TL). If she says, we upgrade when there, else I'll get DLR hoppers after we get back.

Thanks, all!

Did you already use the AP? If so don't know if you can upgrade since it is more than 14 days since you used it. Maybe someone with more info can chime in here. I know if you upgrade regular tickets it has to be done within 14 days of first use. You might want to ask Cheshire Figment over on the parks board.
