Cost of the Prom for a Guy?

Ask your DS how it works with professional pictures in his school. When the guy buys the tickets to the dance/prom, the girl paid for the prof. pictures. It was the other way around for Turnabout Dances.

That wasn't a rule, just an understanding.

I think price can vary greatly depending on where you live, not only rural, urban, but nationally.

We are from small town in MA. Have 2 19 yr old sons. ttl 6 proms. One used coupons & got discounts for referring other students and ended up paying $20 his junior year for his tux. Senior year coupon only, the same tux cost him $125. Other son paid $145 all three proms.(one he escorted a friend. She paid everything, but his share limo & her flowers) both picked one step up from the basic tux.

prom tix - If in a relationship boy pays both tix apprx $165 & both shares of limor. Both times sons have been "just friends" the girls insisted on purchasing their own tix - was their proms as well. One of my sons escorted a friend to her prom (not his) and her family insisted on paying for everything. My son felt bad so he bought her a very expensive bouquet.

limo- this cost can very HUGELY in my experience. My kids have always split the limo with friends and THEIR portion has ranged from $55-$189.(higher was a stretch hummer, but had alot more kids to split the cost.)

2 boys ttl of 6 proms - some of which they paid solely theirselves they have never regretted going. HOpe your son feels the same, good luck.

I think tux prices really vary. We got married 8 years ago and DH's tux, one of the nicer ones, was $70. The basic tux was $45. We rented from the place that provides tuxes to all the other shops. The exact same tux at the bridal shop where I bought my gown was $100. They rented it from the place we rented from, and then added an additional cost to give them a profit! Ask around and see if there's a distributor in your area where you can rent directly.

I also second the idea of a nice suit. Many of the high school guys in our area wear suits for prom rather than a tux. It looks just as nice, in my opinion. My DH wore a suit to all our college formals and looked great. You can get a nice suit at a consignment store, thrift shop, or on sale at a department store. They don't have to be expensive to look nice!

DS went to prom last year. His tux & shoes rental was about $160. Me & the girl's mom made the flower buttonier & corsage (about $15-20 & they were beautiful-used artificialflowers so they could keep them. Dinner was at California Dreaming-I think DS said it was about $80. They didn't want to do the pictures at the prom. We took them to a local university that had beautiflul grounds-a pond, rose garden & huge water fountain. I have a Canon Rebel DSLR camera & the pictures turned out wonderful! Her mom & I went straight to have them printed when we left there. We had them both a mini album when they got home. I think it only costs me about $20-25 for all my pics & the album. The prom pic prices were expensive & didn't come with many pics or poses, so we got lots of poses & sizes this way. We were all very pleased with them.

Yes-the tux was kinda high but DS picked a very nice tux. It included the shoes, a vest, a tie/bowtie, socks, cuff links-everything.

My senior prom I asked a good guy friend of mine to go. My mom and grandma went in halves on my dress ($250 for an off the rack bridesmaid dress as we could not find a gown in my size at Macy's or Penny's or store of that sort back in 1998). My date/friend paid for his ticket, my wrist coursage, and for dinner. I believe I paid for picutres and his boutiner. Plus, he drove us to dinner, to prom, after prom, and the back home. Collectively, I'd guess we spent no more than $500 total. Our prom tix were $50, dinner was probably another $50-60, pictures was around $30, my dress was $250, not sure of his tux though. Proms have gotten soooooooo expensive. It's sad.

Anywho! I'd take some of the suggestions others have replied with here (take them to a nice park/uni/hotel and do "nice" pictures that you can the upload and print whatever sizes you want for cheaper than a pic package would be).
