Cost of Ponchos?

Anyone know the cost of ponchos in the parks?

Last summer I believe they were $8.00. While that seems steep for a rain poncho, IMO they are a much better quality than those you buy at the dollar store. Also, if they rip or are damaged in any way, they'll immediately replace it for free.

i didnt know that they replaced them for free last year i purchase one adult and one child poncho...the child poncho ripped of courseand i just through it in the garbage...and purchased another one...

The OP didn't ask, but I have to say that I think that the Disney ponchos are worth what you pay.

I have had my yellow Mickey poncho for 8 years. It has accompanied me on a number of Disney trips and has been used there and other places many, many times. And it still looks and works great.

I can't remember how much I paid for it 8 years ago - $5? $6? But it has been well worth whatever it is that I paid.

(And it fits well rolled up in a belt pack or my Vera Bradley hipster.)

dollar tree ones are made cheap...WOW $8 we paid $5 years ago...but we use them every trip!

We purchased some yellow vinyl ponchos, similar to the park's but no Mickey, at Wal Mart for about $5.00. They are of similar quality to the park's, and last a good while. After use, dry them completely, or they can mildew.

The 'plastic wrap' ponchos from the dollar store are not worth it at all. They tear easy, and the wind blows them around too much. The hoods do not stay up, either.

Like most things in the parks, the ponchos are overpriced. You can buy better quality ponchos (for less $$$) at Target and just bring them with you to the parks. The only reason to buy ponchos in the parks is if you forgot to pack ponchos for your trip.

Last year, I went to Walmart and bought the cheap plastic type ponchos for like .88 cents. Just slipped one into my back pocket and had it if I needed it. When I was done with it, I threw it away and didn't sweat it. I think that I bought 15 or so last year and have most of them left to take with us again this year.

They are not the best quality, but they definitely do the job.

The Disney ones are nice and probably worth the price, but it isn't worth the hassle of drying to prevent mildew IMO

$8 is a ripoff for what is essentially a formed sheet of plastic.

I buy plastic camping ponchos at my local sporting goods store for around $0.79 each. At Disney's price I can buy 10 for $8 have enough to supply a family of 5, AND have a spare for each person - thus not having to worry about poor construction, rips, or tears...

We got $4 Walmart ones a few years ago and they are sturdy and still fine and we still use them, but I then found Disney Animal Kingdom ponchos at a yardsale for .25 each!!!! I bought all 4 of them!

I wore one of my yard sale finds to AK this week and used it on KRR!

Glad to know they will replace them!

We get a bunch of ponchos at the dollar store (2/$1) After an afternoon shower, we just take them off and throw them away or roll them up fr the next day.

Sure the park ones are nice but they can be a pain as well. Not to mention I can buy a whole supply of them for our entire family for a trip for less than what one park one would cost!

That's one thing that I think is nice about the cheaper ones - it's okay to toss them when the rain stops. They are folded so tiny, they fit in your back pocket. But after you open it up, it takes forever to get it back in your pocket - not to mention that they are dripping wet.

DH and I don't like to bring bags into the parks with us to save time at the gate, so I'm all about tossing them after we use them.
