Cost of grooming for a small dog?

Good morning,I'm a groomer in RI and I charge $35 for a shih tzu that includes ears plucked, ears washed ,nails cut, anals, bath ,blow dry and hair cut with a bow or bandana of course:) My clients usually tip between 5-10 per dog,its not expected but appreciated! oh and bty I have a shih tzu myself and once you have this breed ,your hooked!!:)

Oh, that is SO true!! My boss got a b&w shih tzu about 10 yrs ago, I fell in love with her and before I knew we had a male b&w one a couple of years later, my parents fell in love with mine so before long they had one, and some friends of ours also got one after they saw ours!! Since then, we got another b&w female and my parents now have 4 of them...they're addicting and just SO adorable!!:teeth:

Luckily, our Pug doesn't need alot of grooming, just nail trims about once a month, which are usually $12 or less if we go someplace, sometimes we trim his nails ourselves, but it takes 2 people because he is a wiggle-worm.

We love our pug! He has alot of personality.
We bathe him ourselves about once a month.

I bought the "Fluffy Pet" soap bar at BASIN, we lather him up, rinse and he's all set! The Fluffy Pet soap bar has natural ingredients that clean & prevent bugs to a small extent.

We have two Shih Tzu's and it cost's $35/ea for shampoo, cut and nails. I bring them in every 8-10 weeks and they get a short puppy cut each time.

We tried grooming our oldest Shih Tzu once, didn't work, they both behave wonderfully for the groomers though (naturally).
Your too??? I tried grooming my Shih Tzu and she attacked me like a wild racoon. But when I take her to the groomer she just jumps in her lap. :rotfl2:

Hi! I am thinking about adopting a small dog this summer. The breeds I'm looking into are something like a Yorkie Poo, Shih Tzu, Pekepoo...you get the idea. On average, how much would grooming cost? For example, trimming the hair so it's still relatively short and probably nails. How difficult would it be to maintain myself and how much does it cost to take the dog to a local groomer for a trim? Thanks in advance. :thumbsup2

Have you thought about getting a snoodle (Snauzer/poodle:) I am a groomer and all my clients with a snoodle love their babies! They have a great personality. But it seems anything with a yorkie or shih tzu wants to eat the person clipping them. :dance3: Grooming cost can be crazy expensive or budget minded. Before I moved I had worked in a big name store in MD and little dogs would run at least $60.00(and we were cheap for a store) but again a condo in an ok area around us ran at least 210k for a studio with a bathroom. But around there you could also get a pet groomed in someones house for around $40-45. While a groomer who comes to your house would cost between $75-100 Remember if its a mix breed they don't have a standard cut so you can be pretty creative. And lots of things will look good.

Hi everyone,

I was also about to post this question.

I am ready to take my pappilion any day now. It's been about 10 years (our maltese) since I have gone to a groomer. Just curious if anyone tips the groomer, and if so, what would be reasonable amount.

Thanks.

Oooo I love those little guys! The usual tip around here is anything from doughnuts- $40 lol. We love the doughnuts but money always comes in handy for lunch.

This was Rink, my Shih-Tzu's first haircut:

Now he's big enough he's not scared to jump off of that stool, so he goes to the groomer. He thinks I'm playing anytime I try and I'm afraid I'll cut him.. but the groomer says he is a perfect little angel. She said "I look at him, put my finger on his paw and say "Can I have it?" and he lifts it up for me."

Amazing.

We have 2 Shih-Tzu's ; 15 y/o Fallon and 1 1/2 y/o Chloe. They go to the groomers every 8-10 weeks and it costs me $50 for both to have the works done. I do have them clipped on the shorter side (not too short though), and keep their tails long and bushy and their legs a little longer so they don't look like "chicken-legs". These are the best, most loving dogs ever, and a big plus = yard clean-up is minimal compared to the bigger breeds.:thumbsup2

My only regret with having 2 is waiting too long to acquire the second...my 15 y/o sleeps her days away while the baby (1 1/2) wants to play all day.

A neighbor of mine has 5 of them, all Shih-Tzus, and you never hear a peep out of them.

Good luck in your decision.

BTW: Both my DH and DD8 are allergic to dogs (and cats for that matter), and not only are they okay with our dogs as I believe they have "hair" as opposed to dog "fur", but also, these little dogs do not shed! No dog hair/fur on my furniture or clothing is another plus.
