Cost of groceries in DVC resort shops?

I'd say go for it. The quantities are a little smaller but if you are over eating in the park then, it balances itself out. We always use Garden Grocer or Wegoshop because of the water situation plus we stay 7 days plus so, we aren't wasting food. I'm not willing to pay $3.50 for bottle water in the park. Normally, for our family of 4 we drink 12 bottles a day easily. I usually freeze some in the freezer too. So, we start the day with one bottle as we are walking to the parks and then, we take 4 frozen ones with us. Then, we have one when we get back in the evening. Sometimes depending on how humid it is I can drink 4 to 6 bottles a day. I do like the Brita idea though. I'm gonna have to look into that.

Just my opinion....but the grocery prices in the resorts and the delivery service through disney are outrageous....there are other grocery delivery services in the area that provide alot more bang for the buck

There has never been a trip where we didn't hit Winn Dixie to shop. The frequent shopper card is always on my key chain .

There are 5 of us and we eat breakfast and lunch in the room everyday. We love it that we can go browse and get what we want/need plus a few extra goodies.

It is a great benefit to us to do it ourselves.

Hope that's true! What I don't understand is the price difference from resort to resort. I was comparing the different resorts' grocery lists on the member website last night. At some stores pop tarts are $3.95 and at others they are $5.95. Makes no sense.

Unfortunately, you only get a 20% discount with a Premium Annual Pass. A Regular AP will get a 10% discount.

Just used this 3x last week at OKW in the resort store for cookies, lotion and margarine. OKW has pretty decent prices for groceries, but have noticed as others have, that each resort has some different prices for certain products. Things like Entemann's baked goods that are stamped, are the same price at every resort though.

What are the fees involved with Wegoshop? Do you have to be at your resort at the time of delivery or can you arrange payment ahead of time and request delivery with bell services? We've done Garden Grocer, so I am curious to know the difference other than you pay the actual grocery store price with wegoshop. Thank you!

The delivery charge for wegoshop depends on how much you order and if they have to go to more than one shop. The nice thing is they give you the receipt from the store so you see exactly what you are paying for the groceries, wine, etc. But, you do have to be there for them to deliver the groceries. Sorry for the delay in responding...

We've had Garden Grocer delivery the past 4-5 trips, but I'm thinking of skipping that this time and just getting some things from the resort shop because we always spend much more than we need. I know the shops are expensive, but Garden Grocer isn't cheap either (45 cents/banana!), plus the delivery fee and tip. I might just pack a box of cereal and some snacks in our bags (we need gluten free for my daughter, so Garden Grocer isn't always that helpful for us with snack stuff). Water is the biggest thing that might make me want to keep Garden Grocer, but I'm curious the price difference for that and other basics like milk and bananas, maybe butter and cream cheese. Does anyone remember approximate prices for some of the basics in the resort shops like BLT or BCV and/or is there a price list available? Thanks in advance!

The prices I've seen in the resort grocery are absolutely through the roof, almost double what you would pay at a grocery store. If you can pack food in your suitcase without having an extra charge, that's the way to go.

As for water, no worry. The tap water in Orlando is safe to drink.

But it smells and tastes horrible, so for those of us with allergies/sensitivities, it makes for horrible cramps and sore tummies.

I have very picky eaters and have found it easiest to pack and bring most of what we'll need and supplement it with a few items from the store (perishables and liquids). I don't mind paying $3/half gallon of milk if that's the only thing I'm buying, but I won't pay their $6 for a box of cereal I can get at home for $2 on sale.

Key here is I spend a little time here and there weeks ahead of our trip picking up and tossing our groceries in a bag. The items that have to stay cool go into a cooler - use dry ice or freezer packs, most airlines frown upon ice as it could leak. Seal up with 1/2 ton of tape and you're good to go. Airport security will most likely check the cooler and food bags (peanut butter shows up strange on their scanners) but they do an excellent job of putting it back together and re-sealing it.

All areas have their own taste and smell. Chances are it's not allergies that are bothering you - it's the minerals and microorganisms in the water that vary from region to region. Where we live we're used to them so they don't bother us. Florida water no longer bothers my family as we've been there so often and have taken to drinking the local water on hot August days (stomach cramps are nothing compared to heat exhaustion.)

You'll want to be aware that the soda machines are mixed from local water too.

Thanks everyone! We use tap water at home and rarely use bottled, but we don't like the taste of the tap water at Disney. I also don't like paying several dollars per bottle in the parks so we usually have 2 cases delivered with our Garden Grocer order. I might try wegoshop this time if I can figure out what time would work best without worrying that we'd be wasting time waiting for the delivery before we can get into the park or do something fun

On a recent trip to Russia, I had some issues with even the filtered water. My doctor recommended using probiotics during travel. He pointed out that even within the US the minerals change by region. I've been using probiotics whenever I travel now and they work great.
