What is the cost per point to rent?

Please advise.

Thank you.

:D

The amount you pay per point for a rental reservation is fully negotiable between you and the owner. The average is around $10 per point, but it depends on many factors...you may find some cheaper if the owner has some points he has to use or lose, but they are few and far between...they may also be more expensive, if you want a hard to get season and someone has already has a ressie they are willing to rent.

I suggest you check out the DIS DVC Rent/Trade board.

But, remember, if you are not a member, the points are useless to you. So you are actually paying the member to make you a reservation using their points.

Compare the price of what the member is offering to what you would pay CRO for the same reservation and make your mind up on that. You can always try to negotiate a better price with the member.

If the cost is around the $10 mark, I would say that is quite inexpensive given the fact that Boardwalk one-bedroom in a 3 season category is around $450 per night. That would equal 45 points, which could get me 2 nights or one and change on a weekend!

Even at $12 per point, it's seems to be a good deal.

Yup. That's why people rent points.

Based upon your trip history, I'm assuming you are a member yourself looking to rent out your points.

If you browse the Rent / Trade board, the prevailing figure you will see is $10. Some folks will go less than that if they need to get rid of points on short notice due to ending Use Years. Others claim that they accept nothing less than $12 per point, and have never had problems finding a buyer.

Guess it all depends on how you market yourself...

Do be prepared to expend a certain amount of time and energy. You will be the renter's sole link with DVC. You will have to call and check availability--often several times. You will have to make the reservation. It's wise to draw up a contract with your own terms regarding payment, cancellation, etc. And, remember that renting involves a total stranger sending you hundreds or thousands of dollars largely on the faith that you will make and maintaing their reservation. In many instances, be prepared for a certain degree of paranoia, and do what you can to keep the renter at ease.

Good luck.

Thank you for the information.

I am a DVC member, but instead of selling, I was thinking about buying a few points to put us into a better category on DCL.

Thank you for your input.
