Cost of Double stroller at Disney?????

Help!!! We leave in 8 days and were wondering if anybody knew the cost of rental for a double stroller. Is there not a money saving advantage to renting one buy the week? And once you rent one at one park does it carry over to the next park? Last question... we will be traviling with our daughters who are 7 and 5. Are people going to look at us like we have lost our mind if they ride in one of these?

I don't know the exact cost but I do know it's in excess of $30 a day for a double. It's not uncommon to see older children in strollers at Disney -- I would probably ride in one if I could convince someone to push me.

$31 a day for a double. My DD's are also 5 & 7 and we did a stroller swap for our last trip, b/c although they never ride in a stroller at home, they def. still need one to keep up with us in the parks. Me & DH are full-throttle and don't slow down for anyone
You do get the occasional comment from someone who has a much younger child that they don't let ride, but for the most part people mind their business. it is really a personal choice and while some people are happy to force their kids to walk and just go at their pace others do decide to give 'em a lift. Just bear in mind that the double will be HEAVY with two kids in it and not so maneuverable. Also, if you decide to split up at all, one will have to walk. Two singles is another (more expensive, but not by much) option. And if you have a single from home, you could just rent the one single. Since we have 3 we do a single from home and then the double. Having one from home makes the walk out of the park with the sleeping kid in tow much easier. We've been through that and it ain't pretty.

That is an absurd price!!! They might be walking like the rest of us! I was thinking last time we went, I paid like $15/per day, but htat was several years ago. Guess they've had a price increase Thanks for the info. Too bad you can't "stroller swap" the disney strollers!

Maybe you could look into the stroller swaps that are currently going on. 8 Days out is pretty short notice, so I'm thinking you probably won't have much luck. There is also some company down in Orlando that rents kid's products and I know they carry strollers. I forgot the name of the company but if I remember it I'll post for ya. I'm sure it's cheaper than the Disney stroller, but probably not much.
Yes, there was a big price increase last year. $31 a day is absurd! That's why I started the stroller swap for my last trip. Cost everybody $23 for the week, and a better stroller to boot!

We just got back from the World on Sept 6. A one day double stroller is $31, we rented it for six days for my 5 and 8 year old at a grand total of $161.00. I almost had a stroke. We rented the same stroller in April of 2007 and it was about half of the price. The do sell small umbrella strollers in the parks for about $50 dollars, which would be cheaper to buy two of those than renting a double from Disney. So my suggestion is to buy or bring your own from home. It is tough when you kids are older but can't walk all the time in the parks. As anyone knows who has been to Disney before prepare yourself for a marathon. If you have your own you also have the luxury of wheeling the kids all the way to the bus stops or your car. You must turn the Disney Strollers in and it is still a hike to the bus stops for tired little ones at the end of a long Disney day.

At that age, I still brought a single full size one (very light though) from home. Yes, it looked silly at the airport, but it was great in the parks! DD (at 7) fell asleep in it one day (she was sick) so I was happy to walk her all the way back to the Dolphin from MGM (now DHS) without her getting up. Then they just shared it.

If you still have one from home, I'd bring it. Heck, for that price, you could buy one and ship it down, or get one at Target or Walmart on the way to your hotel? Then if you want to leave it there, maybe give it to someone or something? There are lots of options.

I didn't know they went up that much. I still rented last year a couple of days for my DD when she was 8 - I think I got a double so it was nice and big. Only needed it maybe the last 2 days, when she was tiring out.

You can pre pay for a disney stroller at all disney resort gift shops. You get a slight discount ($27 a day for a double). When you arrive you go thegift shop and pay for the number of days you are going to need it (say 6 days). Once you arrive at a theme park you go to the front of the line (pick up area), show your receipt and get a stroller. If you go to a different park that same day you just show your receipt again.

The cost of a stroller is high but with pre pay at least you save a little and also with kids under 7 you also save your sanity - grumpy tired kids are the end of a day.

We usually take our own. My DD was 5 for our last trip in April and is very tall- had been mistaken for 7 or 8 many times. I also had my DS who was 18 mos. I brought 2 strollers because we usually go back to the parks in the evening. Having the strollers allows us to stay later than we would be able to had we not brought them. The kids have a place to sit (and eat a snack). It is easier to keep track of them- the parks are darker than you might think at night in some places. My DD also has asthma and, although she has never had an attack at WDW, if she did I would be grateful to have the stroller instead of making her walk. We stay at the Epcot resorts mostly, so we do not even have to take the kids out of the stroller most times to get back to our hotel in the evenings. We have never heard any negative comments or noticed any strange looks. You never know another person's situation. We use a Maclaren for DD and a Pliko 3 for DS. The Mac folds up very small. Pliko we take for the tray.

I second the bringing one from home. I am bringing one that hasn't been used in quite a while for our trip in Nov. Bringing one single that dd (just turned 5 at time of trip) will ride in mostly. But ds 6 might take a turn or two in there too.

I'm kind of happy that we are almost out of the stroller stage since the prices are so ridiculous now.
