New here. Been lurking and enjoying the forums.

All I want to know is how much the digital Cds cost and how many pictures can you put on them.
I am not talking about last years Cds but this years.
In September a CM at MK told me that there were going to be new picture machines and they were going to be high capacity machines that would allow more pictures to be downloaded.
I have called Disney about the cost of the Cd and they said that it varied.
Please help me.
I don't have a laptop and getting one is not an option. If I get one I can't go to Disney. Needless to say I'll skip the laptop.

hi! and welcome to the dis!!!
i just posted this question a few weeks ago and no one could give me the answers i was seeking so i emailed disney directly. the email i got back said that there are two ways to do it. first- you can drop off your memory card at any film processing location. this takes a couple of hours. it costs $11.99 plus tax for up to 120 images. the second- they have two do it yourself locations. this costs $12.77 plus tax for up to 120 images. the two DIY locations are in the magic kingdom town square exposition hall. the other is at the contemporary resort, 4th floor, concourse sundries and spirits.

hope i helped. have a great trip!!! :flower:

Yup... it's definitely around $12 for 120 pics. We used it last May without any problems.

Some advice - invest in some more memory before you go!

I know it's hard to recomend people buy something additional, but prices are really coming down. You can get 256MB cards for under $30, and 512MB cards for under $50. When you consider how much processing 120 pictures is going to take you, it's really worth it - especially when you think back to how much we used to pay for disposable film and developing!

You also don't have to fiddle with dropping off your cards, hoping the CD data is verified, etc., etc. And 120 pics isn't a whole lot, especially if you are like me and like to keep even your "bad pics" - who knows what treasure you might miss on your little camera screen that you wouldn't see until you get home and see it on your big computer monitor.

Some people dislike multiple cards, even though it makes your pics safer (like any media, cards can become corrupted - doesn't happen very often, but it does happen). My advice is to make it as simple as possible - keep the cards locked up in your room safe, and just switch them out in the morning before you leave (only carrying one at a time on you, inside your camera).

Good luck, and happy picture taking!

N.E.D.

PS - If you are even thinking about buying more memory - do it BEFORE you go. Digital cards were the single most outrageously priced thing I have ever seen EVER at WDW. Like $200+ for a lousy card you can get for $30-40 at home. Insane prices - when you exit Imagination at Epcot take a look.

Or if you have a car available, you can drive to a nearby Walgreens & make a cd for around $4

I recently saw a new product in PC magazine called roadstore. This allows you to burn photos from your digital camera onto CD. Circuit City now have them for under $200.00. Anyone used this type of product.I'm fairly new to digital so still learning myself but this product would be easy to pack in my suitcase and appears simple to use. Susan

I am still new to the digitial camera and haven't yet filled up a card. If you take it to Walgreens, do you just stick it in one of those machines and it makes the cd for you? Do you know how many pictures you can get on a cd? And finally, when you view the cd, do you have to have a special program to see your pics? Sorry if these are dumb questions-I've always been technologically challenged.

While I do suggest buying more memory rather than burning the CD (after all, it is easier and more cost-effective in the long run) I just wanted to point out that you don't have to drop off your cards. I stood at the machine for 10-15 minutes and went through the entire process myself, following the prompts. As great as Disney CMs are, there's no way I'd leave my card with them.

And, as far as your pictures not storing correctly, I remember the thread where the mom lost all the pictures of her dd and truly do feel bad for her, but have to also say that the process wasn't very difficult. The prompts were very clear and if you follow it through to the end you shouldn't have any problems.

If you can just buy more memory cards. They are very cheap nowadays considering to that you can use them time and time again.

Sony do a photo storage device too. I think it retailed for about £200 here (something like $400 in the USA). It could take compact flash and memory sticks I believe. I fancied the technology of it but then thought I might as well just buy a couple of extra cards which would be a lot cheaper.

I believe they are either coming to the market or already out, but much like USB memory storeage, I think they are making them for various memory cards. When your card is fully you simply transfer the data to a memory storeage and you can use your memory card again. The storeage device plugs into the USB port on your computer.

I just bought a digital camera in Feb. so I am new at all of this. How many photos does a 512MB card hold. I'm not sure what is in my camera now but it holds 178 4x6 photos.
