Cast members get sick all the time, I'm sure plenty have had the Flu this year (which has impacted 9.7 million people in the US vs 300).

I wont go into the mortality rate numbers because there just aren't enough cases to validate the lethality of this particular virus.

I'm more concerned about airlines rescheduling/cancelling flights, though I don't see this impacting my flights for my late April trip down to WDW, at least not as it stands.

CM gets it, said CM has been Quarantined and other CMs that have been in contact with such CM also Quarantined.

Business continues as usual.

Think of the turnaround of people in and out of these parks. By the time they figure out the people said CM has come into contact with those people are long gone out of the State.

Difference is, although not always 100% effective, there are anti-virals and vaccine that work for the most part against the annual flu.

There is NO approved anti-viral/anti-malarial/vaccine for the population yet with Cov.

That makes it sound like somehow the infected individuals leave the parks relatively quickly and packs up the virus with them so that no trace is left behind. That is utmost not the case.
If someone is tested, that means that individual has already been shedding the virus everywhere s/he goes.

Sure, we're always more afraid of the thing we don't know vs the thing we do.

Just read that the first cases have been confirmed in my state.

In less than 12 days the number of those infected in Italy has grown from around 10-12 cases on 2/24 to over 3,000 on 3/5/20, which is a rate of doubling every 3 days.

There are also discussions of the virus mutating causing therapies and vaccines development and also possible reinfections.

Anticipate that future travel plans may require some sort health screenings performed at all public transportation hubs,

Will you or someone in your family be denied access to travel because of symptoms? Will you be forced into a 14 day quarantine away from your home and family ?

On Tuesday we had 101 cases, and now, at 1:45am Friday 3/6/20 we have 223 cases, right on track to double the rate every 3 days.

I think in the near future, your choice to travel or not will be made up for you.

The actual number of infected people isn’t really going up as quickly as you’re citing though, they’re just testing more people which will always drive up the number of cases and drive down the death rate. The first part of that sounds infinitely more alarming though which is why it’s the part that news outlets focus on.

Going off that doubling rate the virus that has been around since january globally would be more around 3 million cases, which would also subsequently reduce the currently presented mortality rate.

It's also more likely to see a higher number of cases reported now as the world will be extra cautious and test people who are only exhibiting some of the symptoms vs only those who are starting to show some of the more severe symptoms.

I also live in Maryland where there have been 3 confirmed cases and from what we've been presented all 3 of them are starting to show an abatement of their symptoms and recovering. They're also a couple in their 70s and an individual in their 50s who travelled internationally.

If me or my family members happen to acquire it and be quarantined then we have to be quarantined and be treated, but I'm not going to change my own plans over fear of the unknown.

2-14 days before symptoms show. Most people 5 to 7 days in the parks.
And yes, he/she is shedding the virus everywhere. If it is in Disney it is in banks, and stores, and schools, airports etc...

Though, 80% of people who will get the virus will not even be tested because their symptoms will be so mild.

We leave tomorrow to go down to WDW. I doubt they will close anytime soon, but if it gets that bad everywhere you may not WANT to be at WDW. We have another trip booked for the end of May to WDW and then one in November. We have already decided the May trip very well may not happen, but hoping things die down or get a little better by the November trip. Good luck, stay healthy!
We are in a similar situation. Early June trip seems iffy. Fortunately everything associated with that trip is refundable. Hoping this peaks and then ebbs by our mid-Sept trip. (because THAT one is a stay of rented DVC points that is fully paid, non-refundable! :headache: )

This is spreading alot faster then the yearly flu, and has prompted a world wide response. I have never seen the magnitude of coordinated efforts of the Federal Government, the States and Major Cities all to combat on the Flu, this is different.

When was the last time the Flu prompted a reaction from a large US city to instruct the 2.2 million residents of Seattle to stay home and those aged 60 and above to stay inside their homes?

China has quarantined several large cities, each with populations of millions of people. Closings and quarantines of that magnitude were last seen during 1917-1918 Spanish Flu where 50 Million people died worldwide

I am very skeptical about the total reported cases from China. I am hearing from several established sources I rely on for news that China is and has been suppressing the number of cases each week.

At this time, the one strain of Covid19 (there could be several variants) are reportedly causing mild symptoms in most people, but those who are infected will be highly contagious and not know it.

As the infected unknowingly go about their day, they will be exposing others, and its the elderly and those with underlying health issues will suffer the most.

What should be of concern when you see medical staff in China wearing bio hazard suits and they are themselves getting sick and passing, thats a big question on how bad it really is or could be for certain people.

We have June and September WDW trips and are feeling the same way. Im guessing June wont happen and hoping by September things will be slightly more normal.

People should NOT be going under the assumption Disney World will be closed for their trip and they will get their money back. Their is ZERO talk about that at this time.

Possible Disney might be more lenient and let people change dates and things like that but a FULL REFUND at this stage is highly unlikely.

The assumption that it just goes unchecked as it doubles exactly is incorrect.
There is no treatment for this disease (yet).

Though, 80% of people who will get the virus will not even be tested because their symptoms will be so mild.

20% hospitalization ratio is A LOT when you compare it to just ~2% for the regular seasonal flu.

Happens literally every year with flu and many other viruses. Not a cause for alarm.

No Alarm? When did the Flu cause the following to happen ?

Washington State had thier first coronavirus patient on 1/19/2020, now they have 70 known cases and 10 deaths.

Italy had 10 cases on 2/24/20, they are going to be hitting 4000 cases soon, reported 41 deaths overnight for a total of 168 on 3/5/20

What’s worrisome is the impact of just one person, where just simple exposure is forcing much needed first responders and medical staff to self quarantined for 14 days - how that effect staffing ? it will slow response times to 911 emergency calls for help and increase wait times and impact care at hospitals

Never mind the impact on the Global Supply Chain, Business and Financial Sectors

Just this week in Seattle
  • Seattle Buys A $4 Million Quarintine Hotel
  • Schools Shut in Seattle, school district launched the farthest-reaching school closures in the U.S. directing more than 23,500 students to stay home for up to 2 weeks in a last-resort step that districts across the country are considering
  • Microsoft Corp., Amazon Inc. and Facebook Inc. to encouraging employees in the region to work from home.
  • 27 firefighters & 2 police officers quarantined after they were dispatched to a coronavirus-hit nursing home which had 4 residents who succumbed illness
  • Washington county recommends all 2.2M residents to work from home, tells over 60's to stay indoors
In California
  • UC Davis Medical Center, the union reports 36 nurses and 88 medical staff are under self-quarantine as a precaution after a Solano County patient was admitted into the hospital and later tested positive for coronavirus.
  • Cruise Ships can’t dock and let passengers disembark - Gov Newsom said more than half of 2,500 aboard the February cruise, which docked in San Francisco, are California residents. The governor also added 11 passengers and 10 crew members on the ship are showing symptoms of the virus.
  • California’s first coronavirus fatality — an elderly patient who apparently contracted the illness on a cruise — prompted the governor Wednesday to declare a statewide emergency.

I will be going on a cruise in May and just got an email from Royal Caribbean stating that EVERYONE'S temp will be taken before getting on the ship.

This is probably going to happen at more places too.

Also RC has said they will let you cancel and use your funds for a future cruise. I also think this will happen at more places. No refunds but allowed to use at future date.
