Coronado Springs -- Too Big??

Ok, let's not blow this out of proportion. It might take you 20 minutes to walk around the entire lake, but it does not take anyone 20 minutes to walk from El Centro just to their room, unless you've got kids running everyplace, you've got an electric wheelchair that has no juice, or other circumstances involved.
THe distance around the whole lake is only .97 miles.

Walking Distances
From El Centro moving clockwise around the lake path to:
Casitas 3 = .16 miles
Casitas 4 = .24 miles
Casitas 5 = .27 miles
Ranchos = .46 miles

From El Centro to the Dig Site, via the bridge near the Cabanas
= .35 miles

From El Centro moving counterclockwise around the lake to:
Cabanas 9B = .16 miles
Cabanas 9A/8B = .22 miles
Cabanas 8A = .31 miles

We stayed in the Ranchos and didn't feel too far out. Our DS(6) liked it because of the slide at the main pool and we had "our own" pool in front of our room. DW and I enjoyed our stay at CSR, but liked POFQ more because of the beignets and newly refurbished rooms.

We stayed there in December... That place is HUGE!! We stayed in the Ranchos section... building 7A. I was not about to walk another 20 minutes (there and back) just to buy some Tylenol and a Diet Coke.

That's the building we were in. My husband ended up with really bad heartburn one night after we got back from MK, I had to walk from our building all the way to the store to get some rolaids. The best part of it was it rained on me all the way back (go figure). :confused3

It took us 20 minutes. We had a 3 year old with us and I was 6 months pregnant. Unless you are just a group of adults, walking with kids always takes longer cause they do run all over the place cause they are excited or they are in their to lazy and tired to walk mode.

I think it all depends on what you would call 'huge' and how active you are. I thought CSR would be a lot bigger than it actually was, yes it is a large resort, especially compared to POFQ (where we have stayed previously) but it really was nowhere as large as I thought it was going to be. I had my parents with me (68 and 60) and they're both used to walking, so we would all walk around the resort just for the fun of it and it would take us 20 minutes (to walk through all the sections around the lake - but I can imagine it taking someone who is less mobile a lot longer. We were in Casitas 4 and it took us just a few minutes 'normal' walking pace to get to the main building.

We've stayed at POR, CBR, and CSR. I liked CSR fine when we were there - food court was nice, but strange, with having to be seated and waited on. I didn't feel like we walked any farther from our room to the main bldg than we did at POR. Enjoyed the health club and the boat rentals and the pools.(Much preferred the room at CBR since we were next to the food court.)

Having said all that, I still felt that CSR lost some of the Disney magic because of the conventions. We were over there last week to use their wireless internet, and there were at least 8 different conferences going on. Over half of the people we saw were there for conventions, and it just didn't feel like a Disney resort hotel as much as a Marriott in some big city. For a solo trip, it may not be as big a deal as it would with a family, and it may actually feel less strange, but I doubt we'll stay there again. We've become deluxe-lite obsessed and are firm WL/AKL lovers now!

MouseDog,

Your comment really made me think "to each his own." I love that it's a convention site. I would much rather see "suits" and people lugging around laptops than a bunch of kids running around screaming. I think it being a convention site attracts more child-free vacationers and therefore is a quieter resort. That's why I love it!! :)

Remember that not all conventions are business related. When I was there, there was a poets convention and women's health awareness.

We just stayed there last weekend. It is a big place and it is spread out, but they have shuttles running pretty regular around the walking trail. The food is only OK at the Pepper Market. The bus service was good, as we never waited longer than 10 minutes for a bus, and we were always on the first bus back from the parks. There are a lot of convention people staying there, and my kids, both 12, loved the main pool. I would stay there again.

Me too. When I see people working, I just think how lucky I am to be on vacation. The conventions keep the pool and buses less crowded.

Me personally I don't mind the little - and I mean little - extra walking. My mom stayed there and she said she thought that if you walked the trail around the resort it was 1/2 mile around the whole thing with one lap so it can't be that bad. Somewhere in there anyway.

Of course I am into fitness so that isn't an issue for me.

If you really are bothered by extra space then it might not be for you. Haven't stayed at FQ yet, going to this year but I heard it is much smaller.

CSR is a great place to stay, the theming is cool and the pool is neat too. It is so far my favorite moderate resort.
