We (Me, age 33 and 2 sons, ages 8 & 10) stayed at CSR August 15-18. I called the resort directly the night before our check-in, and requested a non-smoking room on the second floor in either Cabanas 8A or Cabanas 9B (figured if we couldn't be right next to the Dig Site, we may as well be close to El Centro!).

We arrived early--around 1pm. I was delighted to find our room was ready and we got our #1 request--Cabanas 8A. We drove to our building, and were again delighted to find we were near the stairs/elevator. Our room was a good size, easy to manuever even with all 3 of us there. Looks just like the pictures you can find on various sites. About 3-5 minutes walk to the Dig Site; 7-9 minute walk to El Centro.

Now, having previously had a bad experience with the Disney Transportation System (10 years ago, at CBR), I did not regard this as a 'bonus' of staying onsite. However, my boys begged to take the bus our first night, and boy am I glad we did!! Cabanas 8A is located very near a bus stop, it was less than 5 minutes (probably 3) from room to bus stop. We never had to wait very long for a bus, and it moved quickly through the resort. A big, big, big, big BIG bonus of CSR that we learned of later in our stay (At BCV) is that the buses for CSR are ONLY for CSR, unlike many other resorts (ahem...beach club!) where you make numerous stops at other resorts, nearly doubling the commute time. We used the CSR buses during our entire visit; at BCV, we only used it once (and once was enough!)

The Dig Site was great--my kids loved it, although they were disappointed that the waterfall didn't actually have water FALLING on you. Loved the slide.

The staff at CSR was incredibly helpful and accomodating. This Moderate truly earns a Deluxe rating when it comes to service! At Guest Services, options were described to us patiently and in great detail; in the gift shop, the CMs graciously endured my kid's endless requests to see their pins. In fact, a manager was incredibly sweet about describing to us how to identify and find lanyard series pins--we are new collectors--and even went so far as to go out back and find 2 pins for my boys, their first lanyard pins ever. She did this all of her own accord, we didn't even know what lanyard pins were at that point.

We ate breakfast once at the Pepper Market, I was a wee bit surprised at the high cost/mediocre quality of the breakfast items. We also ate dinner at the Pepper Market, and used Quick & Casual Vouchers, so it was a great value, and the quality was fantastic. It would've been pricey without the vouchers, however. We also had the breakfast buffet at the Maya Grill one morning, which was FANTASTIC. Also pricey, but worth it. I especially love the breakfast burritos and the cheese danish.

I have stayed previously at CBR and DL (now PO-FQ), and during this same trip, at the Beach Club Villas. CSR is without a doubt my favorite of the four. My boys voted CSR as their favorite in terms of space and convenience, but SAB won out for favorite pool. I'm torn on the pools; granted, SAB was more impressive and a lot of fun, but it was easier to keep track of my boys at the Dig Site.

I'm glad you loved CSR. It is definately our second favorite resort in all of WDW. The Wilderness Lodge only slightly edged it out of first place for us. We even like Coronado Springs better than the Polynesian and the Swan!

Thanks for the great review:) CSR seems to get high marks from a lot of people...I'd definately like to give it a try.

Thanks for the info! I can't wait until I check in!! I've got my two allergy-required requests on...non-smoking and no feather pillows (don't know if they usually have those or not...I've learned it's better to go ahead and have it on there wherever I'm making ressies)...and at this point figure I'll leave it up to the person doing room assignment where I go. The poll I put up leans slightly to Ranchos, but I hear great things about all the areas! At any rate, I'll be at Disney ~ and seeing my sister I haven't seen in almost 2 years! :Pinkbounc

Thanks again!!

My wife and I have stayed at Port Orleans, Dixie Landings and Caribbean Beach Resort (in that order). We kind of stayed away from CSR because we thought being in a conference center, and dealing with conference center attendees, might take away a bit from the "magic." Was there a big conference going on when you were there? Did the resort seem huge to you (i.e. too big)? Thanks in advance for the thoughts.

Hey BK,

I've been looking forward to your review. I'm glad you and the boys had a great time. I'm surprised that the water fall wasn't working during your stay. I wonder if it is down for rehab or something. They usually call to the water gods in the morning to start it up.

CSR transportation is wonderful.

Great report!

Hi Doug!

The only conference I was aware of was some sort of religious conference. The only reason I knew it was religious was because several of the people were dressed in brown monk-like robes. We only saw them in El Centro, and they kinda fit right in, their robes had a southwestern feel to them. I don't think the 'conference center' issue should be an issue--plenty of the resorts have conference centers (Beach Club and the Swan/Dolphin come to mind). I didn't notice any 'suits' walking around. The resort is large, but no, it did not seem too big. In fact, because of our location, it was more convenient for us to get around than the Beach Club. (It took us 12 minutes to get from our room in the beach club to the main pool area; 5 minutes at CSR).

Hi Buzz!

Let me clarify that--the falls were working perfectly, and were gorgeous! For some reason, my boys thought the water would fall into the pool in a sheet of water you could get under, when instead it trickles into the pool. So you can sit in the 'waterfall', but you can't get under it.

I think this is a "plus" for the moderates. The buses are only for that one resort. I don't really consider POR-FQ busses shared cause they are merged into one resort now. Many of teh Deluxes share busses, but the mods all have thier own bus system.

Then again, the mods are considerably larger than the Deluxes and have more than one bus stop. 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other, maybe?
