We also were not really big on being by the Dig Site but the main building was important. We wanted Cabanas and were put in Casitas. We were thrilled with not getting our choice. It was a perfect location. We were the first room at the end of this walkway on the ground floor:

We were as close to the main building as possible. I feel like that is my room now, with others who use it while I'm not there:rotfl:. We love being a quick walk to snacks, drinks, bus stop and still having a very quite room!

Ok, I'll take your room while you're not there. I promise I will take good care of it. Maybe we can have have a timeshare going on! :rotfl2:

It does look like a very nice area. Just what we would be looking for. I'd really rather go next year instead of 2013. I guess I will just start saving and see what next year brings.

Thank you for all the responses to my questions.

On another note, does this being a convention hotel make it a pain if there is a big convention or more than one convention going on? I would think it may make the dining area very crowded. Does it affect anything else negatively at this resort?

Also, is there a particular area of the hotel that tends to be designated rooms for convention guests.

We just returned from 13 nights of wonderful times!
We requested a room close to a bus stop and quiet pool. We got Cabanas 8A which was by both! PLUS we got a water view room which we didn't pay for--:thumbsup2! Last year we got Casitas 4-which was nice but we LOVED the Cabanas.
We weren't far from the main pool (I would guess a 3 minute walk), we were farther from the main building (I would say 5-7 minutes) but the bus stop was basically right behind our building...depending on if we took the stairs or the elevator it was about 2-3 mins away!
The buses were great! The only time we waited a long time was for DTD. No matter what time of day or what day it was that bus was always late..it was like 30-35 minutes waiting!
Our mousekeeper was efficient but not wonderful. We got clean towels, shampoo, lotion etc every day, our trash was emptied too. But, we ate some carmel popcorn and two days later a kernel or two was still on the floor by the nightstand. And there were no towel animals..:sad2:
If anyone has any questions about the resort or my trip please feel free to ask!

Just returned, checked in at 10:30AM on Saturday 9/17 but the room wasn't ready until 2:30PM and we didn't get what we asked for. My daughter checked in with us at 10:30AM and her room was ready at 1:00PM. We ended up in Ranchos (7B), what a loooong walk! After a full day in the park and then having to walk that far just to refill our mugs wasn't fun.
The resort was really nice. But with so many conventions going on it was hard to get anything quick in the mornings. The quick pick up area for breakfast or just a cup of coffe was a mess! It would be better if it was larger.
We did eat at the Pepper Market twice and the food was great! The Maya Grill was our best meal during the trip, so glad we ate there.
We're not sure if we will be back maybe in a few years.

May I ask what you ordered at Maya Grill? On my arrival day I have a dinner ADR there just for convenience so we can go to bed early that night.

We will be arriving at CSR in about 10 days for our 4th stay. The last time we were there was May 2010. In the past I have always faxed my room request about 4-5 days before our arrival and always got the section we wanted (Cabanas). It seems like I read somewhere...maybe on here that they do the room assignments different now. I made my reservation online 6 months ago and didn't make a room request. So my question is; should I call to make a request or should I fax it. We really want to be in the Cabanas 8A or 8B.

It's been said that CSR no longer reads faxed room requests (they were one of the last resorts to accept faxed requests) so you will need to call to make a request. When you arrive, if they have not honored your request, you can ask again to see if anything last-minute has opened up for you. Apparently room assignments are all done by computer now automatically so it is still worth it it ask if you don't originally get what you want.

I sounds like we were there at the same time and in the same building.:rotfl: We were there Sept 10th-18th and were also in building 8A, but on the first floor. I think our room number was 8120. We too received an upgrade from a standard view to a waterview. As you are walking up that pathway that seperates 8B and 8A, from bus stop 4 we were in the very first room on the right. If you walked straight out of our room you saw the lake, but if you glanced just to the left, you saw the parking lot and bus stop. I believe there was another DISer there too. A few doors down from us, someone had their windows decorated with Mickey Heads.

Our housekeeping wasn't that great this trip either. The room was clean enough when she did clean, but there were several afternoons, we'd come back and the room wouldn't be done. One day she knocked on the door about 4:30pm (even though I had put the do not disturb sign in the door) and asked if we wanted housekeeping, yet my last morning there she was knocking on the door by 8:30am, asking when I was leaving and saying she needed to get the room ready for the next guests. As far as towel animals there was one in our window when we arrived, but that was the only one we got. We left it when we left, so I guess the people checking in after us got it.

I was there Sept 10th-18th. When I originally made the reservation, I had the CM add a room request for first floor anywhere in the Cabanas with a preference for Cabanas 8A. I called about a week before I left to make sure the request was still on there. When I checked in, we had been placed on a top floor in Ranchos 7B. The very nice CM must have saw the look of horror on my face and asked if anything was wrong. I told her I loved the Cabanas, liked the Casitas, but absolutely hated the Ranchos and then I mentioned the request I had made. She said she did see it on her computer screen and to let her see what she could do. She came back and at first told me she could put me in Cabanas 8B if I didn't mind waiting for the room. I told her that was fine, but then she said to wait and she'd check somewhere else. She then told me that there was a first floor room in Cabanas 8A that exactly matched my request and it was ready now. When I got to the room, I was surprised to find that she had upgraded me from a standard view to a water view. It was the perfect room. My long winded point is, call and have the CM add the request now to your reservation. If you don't get it, ask very politely if anything else is available that is close to your request. Most CMs will move you if they can. If they can't, just be polite either way. With Casitas 1, 2, and 3 now being preferred and most people not wanting the Ranchos, Cabanas may be harder to get.

I'll be back at CSR Nov 26th-Dec 4th and again had the CM put in a request for first floor Cabanas, when I made the reservation.

Hello,

We had to change our dates due to DD's health. We are now going from Nov. 26- Dec. 5 ! By changing the dates the CBR was not available to meet DD's needs for a H/C room :sad1: We had booked a pirate room! Anyway, after a looooong phone call to rebook we were accomodated over at CSR! :wizard: I have noww been reviewing everything about this resort! This will be our first stay at CSR. We did pay for a prefered room due to DD's wheelchair. I have enjoyed seeing all the pics. and reading the reviews! :) Now back to reading! :goodvibes

:welcome: to the CSR thread! I hope your DD is feeling much better and you have a wonderful trip! Kathy (KatMark) has done a great job on this thread - it is filled with lots of wonderful info about CSR. Feel free to ask any questions - we are happy to help!

So question of the day, Casistas 4 or 5, we requested, is there elevators? We have a stroller with us. Also, does anyone know if they sell Juice boxes or the little horizon milk boxes? I orginally thought I would find a way to run to a store to get a few packs of each but I can't really come up with a realistic way to do that so.... looks like I'll be buying them there.

Just wanted to add to what was said by other posters. If you decide to do online check-in 10 days in advance, you need to make sure any room requests are noted in your resie prior to doing the online check in. I was told to re-do online check-in when I made a request through Disney reservations AFTER I did online check-in. I guess requests made after online check in aren't seen?

Glad you had a great trip! We stayed at CSR twice this year. The first time we got no towel animals. But in August, we came back to the room to a Mickey shape on the bed. Around the corner from us, someone got these great towel animals daily. Elephant hanging on their curtain, monkey, etc. I was jealous!

Just returned, checked in at 10:30AM on Saturday 9/17 but the room wasn't ready until 2:30PM and we didn't get what we asked for. We're not sure if we will be back maybe in a few years.

I am thinking of requesting 7B for our stay in a couple weeks. Was the long walk the only downside for your location?

Fax won't work. You'll need to call Disney reservations anytime before your trip. CSR, itself permits calls about the room request 3 days prior to your stay, but you get an operator not the front desk.

I'm sorry about your dd's health. I hope she is doing better. I just wanted to make a comment about the Casitas and wheelchairs. I'm not sure about Casitas 1, 2, and 3, but Casitas 4 and 5 are definately elevated off the ground. There are only a few wheel chair accessible entrances to those buildings. Due to the elevation, there were steps (3 or 4) at most areas to access the first floor. Until we learned where the ramps were, we walked all over creation trying to find them.

In March, we stayed in 8A and there were no steps to the first floor, it was at ground level and made it much easier to access the building.

It was opposite for us at the Dig Site. Coming from the Casitas to the Dig Site the entrances were straight in, coming from 8A the entrance to the Dig Site was stairs and we had to walk all the way around to get in.

Thanks!!!!! My DD is getting better but needs a few things done before the doctor will give her a green light to go! Last doctor's appt. is Nov. 12! Fingers crossed!:thumbsup2

Hi,

I hope in the prefered area they have elevators. I hope they made notes that my DD uses a wheelchair fulltime and can not master any stairs. I was assuming they would make note due to requesting a roll in shower thru specail needs guest services. Now, I am thinking I should call back? I was on the phone with the CM yesterday for over 1 hour trying to sort everything out!:scared1: I would hate to get there and have to "battle" to get round. :sad1:

I got the Pollo a las Rajas - Chicken breast served with red peppers and onion cream sauce, poblano rice and queso fresco $23

Husband got the Arrachera - sirloin steak served with Yukon gold potatoes, and vegetables $26

Both were very good and it wasn't crowded at all.

I'd suggest calling disabilities at 1-407-939-7807. Ask for 1st floor or near an elevator. 3 days prior call 407-939-1000 to make sure they saw the note from disabilities.

Just got back from a 10 night stay at CSR. I had put on my reservation request "Something near the main building. Not Ranchos." We were not too particular but did not want to be too far out as we enjoy spending time at the resort. When we arrived we had been assigned a room in, you guessed it, Ranchos. The lady who checked us in was nice and saw this and said she would find something better. She put us in Casitas 2. I guess it was better but we were a long walk from most everything. We could see the "quiet" pool (always busy/noisy as it serves all the Casita rooms) from our room but you had to go down the length of the building, down two flights of stairs, and around a courtyard to get to it. It was quite a hike to the main building as well so we never used our refillable mugs included with our deluxe meal plan and never ate at either restaurant. There is also only one set of elevators that serve both Casita 1 & 2 so getting luggage up and down was a real pain. I guess we were spoiled last year--no request and we got a first floor Cabanas near a quiet pool, main building, and bus stop. If we stay again, we will definitely request Cabanas.

Thanks Lovethattink, I am actually thinking of NOT doing on line check in. I think we'll just do the regular. I have put a request in for Casista's 4 (I will be happy with anything but Ranchos).

Hoffman1, You didn't like the location of Casista's 2? hmm, that is interesting, I was under the impression that 1 and 2 were preffered because of thier proximity to El centro. WOW, I guess I am way off and need to go back to the first page to get up to speed, all these things are confusing:confused3

Anyone use the blowdryer in the room? Is it powerful? I am debating on if I need to pack mine or not.
