Now that I am getting close to time to leave I wanted to ask about on-line check in....How is it? Does anyone find it any quicker? Should I just wait and do regular check in? We plan on getting there at around 4. Thanks!
I am so excited about staying here!!

I really like online check in. We have done it the last few trips, I got my requests that I had made when I made my reservation and it was quick and easy. One time I was not happy with the exact location we had gotten (inlaws coming and they are super picky) so I asked to be changed and they were still able to do that.

A couple of times it hasn't saved us that much time over the regular time, a couple of times I estimate it saved us a good half hour. So I am sticking with it!

I have read elsewhere on the boards that mousekeeping is not a tippable position and that tips are pooled and Disney gets a certain percentage and the rest is given to mousekeeping by way of parties thrown for them occasionally. Sounds like a very strange rumor to me. Anybody know how this works? Our last visit we tipped daily but this has me wondering. Does anyone know how mousekeepers are paid? Is it below average like waitstaff in restaurants? If a tip helps out I certainly don't mind leaving one as a thank you for good work . If Disney gets part of it I feel differently because I've already paid them good money for my vacation.

I have used online check-in when our room location is not an issue. The only trip I've not used it was at CSR when staying with another family and I wanted us to check in together and be sure our rooms were close together. All the other times we've used it and been happy with our room location, but we're not picky.

If you are happy to take whatever you're given, I think it's much easier to do online check-in. :thumbsup2

I worked for Disney in housekeeping in 2008, I got $7.37 an hour as part of the college program. When I got tips, my manager let me keep them, as well as the other housekeepers in my building. Disney threw us parties anyway, as a way to say thank you for doing a great job. It most certainly is a rumor. If you feel the housekeeper is doing a good job, tip them. I always appreciated it when I got a tip and left some extra stuff in the room, including additional "magic"

On Sunday Aug 28th, the lifeguards went off duty at 8pm. The water slide, the squirting tiki, and the pyramid water were all turned off until the opening ceremony on Mon Aug 29th at 10am. People were permitted to swim until midnight.
This is what happened when we were there as well.

It did not work for us. The line up was larger and none of our request were acknowledged.

Thanks for the check in input. I am thinking I will just wait. Now my sister is wanting to know about a microwave. Can we ask for one when we check in? Is it even possible to get one for our room. I remember reading this a while back, but I don't remember how far back it was!

Yes, if there is one available for your stay you can get one. Just ask when you check in.

TTAfanatic,
Thanks for the response. I thought the tipping thing sounded really strange. I will certainly plan on leaving housekeeping tips if our room is clean. Our last trip they did a great job.

While tipping isn't mandatory like on a Disney Cruise. I like to leave something daily, in case the person doing it the next day isn't the same as the day before.

I like to go to mouse4less and print out tipping envelopes.

Our 2nd day, we didn't get any toilettries but they left us extra towels and wash clothes. But on our 3rd day, we got all toilettries replaced and then some!!

My adult daughters and I will be checking in to CSR around 6PM on Saturday, October 1. We don't plan on visiting the park until morning. We were thinking of going to the Boardwalk for the first evening. What would be the best way to get there from CSR? Any suggestions for things to do (or avoid) at the Boardwalk?

Eat at Flying Fish! :thumbsup2

I'd also like to know the best way to get to the Boardwalk. We'll have a car, but I'd prefer to take Disney transporation in case I have a few drinks. ;) I've never been to the Boardwalk, but it sounds like a fun evening activity!

I believe it's bus to HS, then walk or boat to Boardwalk. But if there's a better way I hope someone lets us know!!

Bus to DHS then walk or take a boat over to Boardwalk. You can also do the same with Epcot, but that requires walking through the entire park.

Doh, note to self, keep scrolling before I reply! :p
