Coronado Springs Resort - New Unofficial FAQ Thread - November 2011

Under two months at long last!

Its killing me not to tell my kids, they think we changed to Pop Century (which we did very briefly, we never told them when we swtiched back to CSR). I guess they'll find out when we walk up to the Magical Express Line and tell them "Coronado Springs" instead of "Pop Century".

This is sooo me! I'm taking older kids for a four night trip (ages 16-25). We booked CSR, then I changed it to Buena Vista Palace & Spa near DTD. Heck, I was saving alot of money by swithcing!!! When the room discount came out, I went back to CSR and added the Quick Service Dining plan. The kids have no idea! I mentioned to one of them that we could hang out at the resort pool and swim. Thinking we were still staying at just "some dumb hotel", they said "Resort? What resort? It's just some stupid hotel!" They are going to be so surprised!

Six weeks for us! Just wish we could be there longer than 4 nights.

You can add the quick service dining plan to a moderate? And keep the room discount? I didn't know this. I might have to make a call. :)

I am paying for the QSDP. We are such a frugal bunch, even my kids, that they would look at the menu and say something like "I'm not real hungry, I'll just get a salad or eat this bag of snacks from my backpack."

It's really a splurge for us - but only for a few nights - and something we've never done before.

Too funny! I said something to dh the other night about I can't wait for the Pepper Market buffet and dd piped up "I will be too sad to go over there to eat since we aren't staying there". I just said, "yeah, maybe your right".

Our tax refund will be a year late thanks to somebody helping themselves to my husband's social security number, so paying this trip off has been a challenge we thought we couldn't handle (hey three trips to Disney in one year what can I say).

You'd think with all the pasta and hot dogs I have been serving, my kids would catch on that the moderate is back into the budget!:rotfl:

I am glad we are both back at the resort we want to be at!

Just switched our AKL reservation to CSR. We stayed in 2010 and really liked it so I'm looking foward to staying here again. My only "cons" about this resort were 1 sink and not having any preferred rooms available. I am crossing my fingers hoping we can either find a preferred room available before then or pay for the upgrade at check in.

ETA...there are waterview upgrades available but does anyone know if we booked that if it would give us a better chance of getting a preferred room at check in since they are the same price? Not sure if we should try that or not.

Probably not. Waterview rooms are found in all the sections of the resort. "Waterview" can mean view of the lake, a quiet pool, the pond behind Cabanas 9B or a fountain. I would keep checking online to see if any preferred rooms become available, or like you said, you can always ask at check-in how much it would cost to upgrade to the preferred location.

Does anyone know if Panchitos sells yogurt? I know there's yogurt at the PM buffet, but I'm looking for the 4oz cups. The kids love their yogurt. :). Thanks.

Here now, so I checked this morning. None in Panchito's, but they do have 4 oz. cups in Rix (the grab-n-go) in the same case as the milk. It's $1.99 or one snack credit.

Tinka-belle... Thank you so much for looking! Do you happen to remember what brand/flavor? Wow, expensive, huh!?! I'm trying to figure out if I can get away with a small order of diapers and water from Turner Drugs, or if I would be better off placing an order with GG or WeGoShop.

Thanks again!
Hope you're having a great vacation! :flower3:

Shpdem, thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures. Getting so excited! Finally in the double digits!!!:cool1:

Thought I'd share my thoughts as this thread was very helpful to me. We checked in last Saturday around noon for a week. Did not do online check in. The line at registration was looong. There was concern at that point about Hurricane Issac so some people may have been trying to change their dates, etc. We paid for a preferred room, and were given a room in Casitas Bldg 2, 1st Fl. This sounded ok to me, but once we finally found it, I was dissapointed. It was as far out to the parking lot as you could be (#2175 I think). A hike to El Centro and the Dig Site. We hit the pool anyway and the kids loved it. We ordered nachos at Siestas and they were not very good...the original frozen margarita was though :thumbsup2. Over the weekend we were busy with the parks, but Monday morning I decided to see if another room might be available. Kevin at the registration desk was happy to help and he got us a room in bldg 3, lagoon view. He was so helpful and I felt much better having paid the extra $$ for preferred. Kevin explained that "preferred" is really about being close to the convention center. The folks from bell service helped us move and were great.

We did the Pepper Market buffet once for lunch while waiting for a thunderstorm to pass. The food was good, but the set up is confusing, ex: for tacos, you could set them up yourself at the buffet with the tortilla and beef, but you have to go to another area, which was not marked, to ask for the toppings (cheese, lettuce, sour cream etc) and can only get them if the "chef" happens to be there, and he often wasn't. I was more impressed with the PM when we were at CSR a few years ago. The dessert/bakery items were forgettable. Cafe Rix was a zoo every morning but the bakery items were better there and I felt they had a good selection of quick foods. The coffee is typical Disney coffee (terrible), such a shame (on Disney, not CRS).

We had a really hot week, especially at the end, so all the walking required to get anywhere at CSR was a bummer (it didn;t bother us as much last time we were there in April, so I think the heat had a lot to do with it, and we are fairly fit). CRS is beautiful, and we encountered many nice CMs throughout our stay. The Dig site is great for kids, ours loved it - some days preferred it to the parks! Panchitos is a great resort store. It was our 2nd stay there and I think we are ready to try something new, but CSR will always have a special place in our hearts.

Also wanted to mention that our rooms were in great shape, and always clean. A few times we left a tip and it wasn't even taken? The bell service and rac guys are happy to take one though ;)

I stayed at the Coronado Springs back in May of this year and can't remember when I had a better nights sleep. I don't know if it's because of all the running around and I was so exhausted I fell right asleep or if it was the mattress being so comfortable. Can anyone tell me what mattress they use? Thank you so much!

Coffee question. So they have the pod machines, how much coffee do they give you? I would likely make a cup in the morning for both Dh and I. I was wondering if I should buy a box and bring it with us in case we want some extras, or is this something mousekeeping would leave extra of? We'll have mugs but neither of us is into nescafe...

Anyone else going to be at CSR during Christmas? I'm just wondering as this will be our first time at WDW during the holidays and we're pretty excited. Just wanted to know how busy it is at CSR that time of year (I'm preparing for it to be extremely busy). Also, do the do anything special at CSR for the holidays beyond the decorations?

you can´t pay the tip in PP with the room key? thats bad... normaly we pay everything with the key, so that we must not take any money with us
