Have they started redoing the rooms yet? We are going the 1st week in April and would love to get a renovated room!

The refurb starts this week, per Buzz's Facebook fan area for CSR. There are two "live" rooms right now.

They will be shutting entire buildings down to do the work, and the work is expected to take 18 months to get everything done. It's extensive. If you figure that CSR has 12 buildings (not including 9B, as Business Class is being eliminated), it is likely to take 1-2 months per building before it opens.

So your odds on getting a refurb room are somewhat low if they start now. They will have 1, maybe 2 buildings complete. They are likely to both be in Ranchos.

Following, because I just made a reservation for the end of April (Star Wars race weekend.)
So you think requesting a room in Ranchos will be more likely to get a renovated room? We went in June 2015 and stayed in Casitas in building 4 and loved it! :)

Sorry to hijack, but can anyone speculate on how this might play into any free dining promotions offered at CSR for the summer/fall? I know it's impossible to know, but maybe someone recalls from past renovations how they worked free dining. I know POR was under a full refurb maybe 5-6 years ago. We're shooting for free dining at POR in late August and CSR is going to be our backup plan, but this makes me wonder if availability will be even more minimal than I'm anticipating.

have they released any previews of what the rooms will look like after the renovation?

"They" have not, but Buzz's Facebook group has pictures of the new rooms. They're very different, and for people who are already twitchy about CSR being a convention resort, they will hate them.

That's pretty much how they did the CBR ones. Once that refurb was going there would usually be one building in finishing touches if necessary, one in full refurb, and one being prepped for refurb -so basically two to three buildings out at any given time. Given that CBR has about twice as many buildings they may try to not have the finishing touches run past building completion and may shorten the prep time closure. (Though if they do the same schedule it could account for all the reports of it being sold out far in advance.)

what's the name of Buzz's Facebook group? I'd love to check out the pictures. Thanks!

not bad. I don't like the desk area though. It makes it look very corporate..not home away from home. Bathrooms are nice.

Yeah. That's why I said people who twitch about "conference resort" are going to hate it.

I like it, because it would give us a long run of space for the kids to dump all their gunk. When we're out of DVC points, though, I think we've outgrown CSR because the kids refuse to share a bed, and I refuse to share a bed with my daughter. It's supposed to be vacation and I like to sleep without getting kicked in the face.

CBR is built much different with many small buildings clustered into villages. It would be very easy to close a village and do the plan you stated with minimal impact to the resort.

CSR buildings are much larger and closing off an entire section would not only be a huge blow to the resort but require a large amount of workers. I expect we'll see like other resorts with larger buildings, one building at a time.

CSR has been our home away from home for the past several trips. For our next trip we're looking into renting DVC points and this kind of makes that decision a little easier. We do love everything else about that resort though.

I am actually okay with this other than ...

(1) it appears we may have lost the table. We do eat in room at least breakfast. I'd rather they eliminate the drawers/counter end and put a small table/chairs in that space. Happy with the desk end, I often work at Disney.

(2) looks like the new vinyl flooring. I have stayed at high end hotels with it, and will not return to them. Hate it. VERY hard to keep clean (as I consider for my kitchen) so it won't be long before Mousekeeping gives up on the scuffs.

Looks better than predicted hospital rooms at POP for warmth and taste ........ but hating on the floors.

New rooms look nice but I do agree the desk makes it look more like a Marriott. I also think the room decor lacks the Southwest/Mexican feel that the prior rooms had.

I am booked at Coronado in February 2018. Any idea of where they will be on the Room renovations by then?

Also going in the end of February (water view). We want to be near the lobby and the dig site pool. We are also hoping for a renovated room but don’t want to see/hear too much construction. Judging by the map, is Ranchos 8A a good choice to request?

@MarBee - There is no Ranchos 8A. There is Cabanas 8A and Ranchos 6A/7A. You'll have to decide what is most important to you because you cannot be close to the lobby, the Dig Site, and avoid the construction.

I love Cabanas 8A, but half the building is facing the construction. You may like Ranchos 7B (not renovated, close to the Dig Site and bus stop) or Casitas 4 (not renovated, close to first park bus stop, shorter walk to main amenities).
