Last year we had the Disney Dining Plan, and Coronado Springs had many signs up that you had to get a drink and side with your meal. It seemed everyone was doing it that way, even though we had mugs. We felt we were wasting our plans by getting a bottled drink at every meal we had there. This in turn caused us to use very few of our meals at the Pepper Market.

However, we were at Saratoga Springs for spring break and they seemed to encourage you getting an extra side with your meal instead of getting a drink. Any word from anyone else about the meal plan guidelines at Coronado and their experience? We have reservations at Coronado Springs again this year and are wondering If we should try somewhere else that is not so strict on their guidelines for the Disney plans.

Thanks.

When was your trip last year? The official change to allow substitutions was at the end of May. If it was before that, the information was correct at the time, but it shouldn't be an issue now.

We were there during thanksgiving, which is when we plan on going again.

Pepper Mkt has always been a little persnickety about the dining plan. Since it is written into the brochure, they should have to honor it. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the eligible snack credit items becomes very restrictive to the point that a bottled drink is your best option.

The food venues at Coronado Springs, including Pepper Market, are operated by a third party which is reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the dining plan so they are strict about usage. Now that the substitution of the dessert and beverage are written into the dining plan brochures you should not have any problems exchanging either for any item with the purple ddp logo next to it.

Disney operated restaurants, both Table Service and Counter Service, are much more fluid in their interpretation of the dining plan.

Our preferred resort is CSR. Don't remember seeing those signs, but in the Pepper Market we always use our mugs and grab a bottle of water for the parks or a bottle of juice for breakfast in our room the next day as our beverage on the dining plan, or sometimes one of those bottles Mexican fruit sodas to keep in our room fridge for when we return from the parks.
