We are coming to Disney this summer and cannot decide between Coronado Springs or Port Orleans-French Quarter.
We have one child-a 5 year old boy.We are staying for 5 nights and plan to be mainly at the parks, but do want to take advantage of the resort too. Which resort is best for a 5 year old? For getting to and from parks? Would love any advice or expertise!!

My boys really liked the CSR pool. It has a playground, arcade, dig site, big pool, and big slide. A lot of people like pofq. We did not care for it(left after an hour). The pool was unimpressive(baby slide) and the rooms were badly in need of a refurb. I think they have been refurbed since then so that should not be an issue.

CSR is the only non-deluxe resort we have stayed at. I am considering a night or two there for our upcoming trip just for the pool. I really think the pool at CSR is better than most of the deluxe resorts.

CSR is way too spread out but have a very nice pool. POFQ is small and has the advantage of two resorts POR. The boat to DTD and it's size is small and easy to get around. The pool is perfact for that age.
I would do POFQ!

Total refurb in 2010 and all queen beds! Check out Andre's site.

Never stayed at CSR but we will be staying for the 3rd time at POFQ. Like the relaxed atmosphere after a crazy day at Disney, the Sassagoula boat to Downtwon is nice as well. Food courts are the same as most Disney Hotels but the grounds are lovely

We've only stayed at the Coronado -- nine times in fact, with and without our kids. We love everything about it. While a big resort, it is not that big that you cannot get around it. There is a great playground for the kids, with an arcade right by the pool.

We have not stayed at POFQ, but we have visited it as we have visited all of the other resorts. POFQ would be third on our list if we couldn't get CSR when we stay moderate. We prefer POR for the pool and quiet pools (something POFQ does not have); I know you can share, but I really don't want to walk from one resort over to the other to go swim. My BFF here on the DIS loves the POFQ.

Your son would probably enjoy either one. My kids particularly like CSR. It has an awesome pool and water-slide - very long and fast. My youngest was 5 on our stay there last year and loved it, but he's a daredevil. If your son is more timid, the POFQ pool may be more his speed. The playground at CSR is way better than the one at POFQ, though!

We love everything about CSR, but my husband and I stayed at POFQ for our anniversary a few years ago and it was nice too. I personally like the open space of CSR and lake in the center of the resort - it has amazing views. POFQ is smaller and I felt like the buildings were too close together.

One nice thing about CSR is that it does not share buses with any other resort. We've always had good luck with the bus service at CSR.

So, in my experience, we really enjoy CSR more than POFQ, but your son will probably just be thrilled to be at Disney World and will not care too much about the resort!

Oooh! Those are my two favorite resorts and I have stayed at both within the last 4 months (CSR in Nov-Dec and POFQ in Feb), but with a 5 y/o I'd definitely go with CSR. We've always had excellent bus service there, the beds are more comfortable, the pool nicer, the pool slide longer, hot tub bigger, and they have the better arcade and definitely a much better playground.

We do love POFQ though for it's small size and the boat to DTD. Your 5 y/o would probably be fine at either, but would really love the playground area and pool slide at CSR more.

I would choose CSR, the pool is great and never feels crowded. Also I have stayed at POR and agree that the rooms were in need of a makeover. Also the buses at POR is the main reason I would never return. Have a wonderful trip!

Renovation at POR is almost complete and I found the Bus at CSR and others to be no different than POR. I do agree that CSR is probably good for OP.

We have stayed at both and prefer the smallness and quiet of the POFQ. Food court is much better there too.

I like the resorts just about equally.

For a younger child (5 is in that range), I'd recommend POFQ. The pool slide is geared toward younger kids and it's a more compact resort for walking.

If you go with CSR, that is a great resort too. You can't go wrong with either one!

Coronado hands down...No disrespect to POFQ, because I do enjoy both PO's but Coronado is my fav. resort to date.. Hopefully soon to be 2nd...LoL BWV
