We are on our way to Corolla Light in the outer banks for a family vacation. Can anyone recommend good restaurants and which of the wild horse tours are the best.

We really love the bbq place right near the light house for lunch and dinner. Their pulled pork sandwiches are great, as are their ribs and all the side items they offer. The Tomato palace in front of Food Lion in Corolla is decent. So is the little Mexican place around the corner on the right from Food Lion. We also like what I believe is Mike an Dianna's. I'm not 100% that's the correct 2 names, but it used to be JK's and is located right across from Food Lion in the shopping area next to the go carts. You think I'd remember since we were just there last week! Near the go-carts on the right there is a Steamers to Go that has great sea food to order out. The ice cream at Big Bucks is great in that same shopping area. There is a good sub sandwich shop in the same shopping area as well (forget the name though). The only place I wasn't big on in trying out OBX area restaurants on our last 6 annual trips was the bbq place in Duck. The light house bbq is 100% better.

We also like the Black Pelican, but that's a good 1/2 drive towards Kitty Hawk.

About 3 or 4 years ago we did a great ATV tour to see the wild horses. We've been trying to do the same one the last 2 years and haven't been able to do so again.

Thanks for the advice. We had some wonderful food. Stopped at Seamark on our way in and bought fresh fish and shrimp. We did go to Big Bucks -twice! We also got Steamers to go. Found a real cute cafe -Wild Horse Cafe in the Corolla Light shops- very good and the service was great and friendly. Also ate at Route 12 -again excellent. Will try the BBQ the next time!

Try the new supermarket they opened up called Harris Teeter--the quality of food there is fantastic

we go for Thanksgiving and last year we keep going to Seamark's in Nags Head and getting the shrimp between 2 of us we ended up eating 10lbs of peel and eat shrimp

Go to the Duck Deli, go for Lunch, they have a great deal for the lunch special. You get ribs, chicken and two sides. Great dish to share or eat by yourself. If you don't mind going down to Kill Devil Hills, try the Black Pelican, Mako Mikes has pretty good food too. And of course, try Awful Arthers if you are looking for seafood. They have a Raw/Steam Bar, but they also have a sit down restaurant and the food is awesome. Oh, and try Hurricane Mo's. They have the best She-crab Soup. It is the best I have ever eaten. We go to Nags Head at least once a year most years we go twice, once in season and once off season. We love it there, that is where DH wants to retire. Have a great time!!!!!!

Unfortunately we came back on the 25th so I didn't get to try most of the recommendations. We did get shrimp at Seamarks and I think it was the best I ever had! We actually only went out a couple of times. We had 6 kids, 11 and under with us so it isn't easy to go to a restaurant with all of them! Especially since one of my 9 year old nephews is autistic. We may go again next year so I am going to make note of all the recomendations. I am thinking of going next Thanksgiving (2007) Can you still swim then?

I did go to Harris Teeter. I am afraid I am spoiled here with Wegman's supermarkets so it wasn't that great to me. I thought it was very expensive -until I went to the Food Lion and realized all the prices are like that! I would go to Harris Teeter over the Food Lion.

AnnR, I don't recommend swimming in the OBX in November. The water is just too cold, but if you have a wet suit, you might get away with it, but it trully is cold then. The air temperature is also iffy. There have been times where the temp is in the 70's and it has been in the 40's. But enjoy, we love the OBX.
