I've always microwaved corn on the cob but would like to try boiling this weekend since we have a lot of guests coming and I think it would just be easier.

Can anyone give me tips on how to cook to make it nice and tender? Any instructions at all are most appreciated!!

Thanks!

I don't know if you still need this but here goes:

Buy the freshest ears of corn you can find, preferably unhusked. For 6 or more ears you want to fill a very large stockpot three quarters full of water. Add 1/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons kosher salt (only use 1 tablespoon if using table salt). Lid and allow to come to a full rolling boil. Once the water comes to a boil (and not a second before hand), shuck your corn. Add the corn to the pot . As soon as the water comes back to a boil the corn is done. Drain, slather with butter and pepper and gorge!

Thanks for the recipe, too! I made some boiled corn tonight, but I hadn't a clue how to make it properly. I pre-shucked it (first mistake), boiled it in water with a little salt, but no sugar (second mistake) for 15 minutes (third mistake). I'm going to remember your technique for our next batch of fresh bought corn.

Thanks.

I picked up 15 ears of corn for $1 today at the farmer's market!

Usually I microwave, but this time I decided to try this method. DH was SURE it was going to be undercooked, but it turned out perfect. We loved it. I'm writing this combination down for the next time I am doing a large batch. Thanks.

I usually grill my corn! Soak the ears in water (husk and all) for at least 30 minutes. This prevents the husks from burning. Throw them on the grill, turning often, for about 20 minutes. I usually start the corn first, then move them to the upper rack on the grill when I cook my chicken or fish. The corn has a fantastic grilled flavor, and the corn itself stayed hot, as you do not shuck it until you are ready to eat it. Use potholder or a dishtowel when you are shucking it, as it really holds the heat!!!!!

I will never boil corn again! :)
