Corelle Ware

I had 2 sets of Corelle and got rid of them to get Pfaltzgraff...sure wish I had the Corelle. I *hate* my Pfaltzgraff...takes up too much room and is heavy!

I want an old pattern that my mother has of the Corelle but it's discontinued so now I am looking for a new pattern (of Corelle).

What pattern do you have?

I use it (the plain white) for everyday and sometimes if we have guests (a friend of the boys or my parents). I love it. It cleans easily, is sturdy, and looks nice.

This was my post from the other thread:

I love it, but I'm getting a little tired of our current pattern as well. We're renovating so the timing is good.

This is the second time around as far as Corellewear goes. My parents had originally given us the gold flowered pattern like they had from the 70's (you know the one :rotfl2: ). I still have a few pieces. I later bought another.

My mother still uses her original set from the 70's, I remember the day we bought it when I was a kid. I like some of the newer patterns and they almost never break. It would make sense to go that route again given it's cost and longevity, but I wonder if it's "good enough" for serving holiday meals and such?

Would have to look it up, but it's off white with hearts and leaves.

I think I'm going with plain white or plain off white next time, maybe in the square pattern.

I had a great set of them - but sold them when I moved into my DD's.. Wish I had kept them for her house - and so does she.. She hates the Pfaltzgraff that her MIL insisted that she had to have.. Too heavy; doesn't like the pattern at all; and it takes up way too much space in her kitchen..

Luckily I kept the serving pieces (larger bowls; platters; etc.) and they are split between her house and my place here at the lake.. The one thing that I love about the Corelle is how sturdy it is! Can't tell you how many times I dropped a plate or something on the floor and it didn't shatter - not so much as a chip..:thumbsup2 DD has dropped her Pfaltzgraff on her counter (not even the floor) and it shattered into pieces..

My/our vote will always be Corelle! :goodvibes

I think I will try to get a new set sometime soon. Everytime I go to put the dishes away I curse the Pfaltzgraff and I have 2 sets...another brand new set that I used maybe a week and didn't like that is now sitting in the attic

I use it for my everyday dishes. We have several sets of "good" china that we use for formal dinner.

I love mine.

I bought a pricey Pottery Barn set several years ago and hated it. Went back to Corelle when we moved.

We use Corelle in our RV and really enjoy it in that environment because it's durable and light. I think its an excellent selection in that price range and they have so many nice patterns now.

At home I use Noritake Colorwave (eggplant/dark purple) for everyday use and I absolutely love it. I've had it for 5 years now and it shows no wear/chips/etc.

I've also got good china for company but it's a PITA to use as it's fragile and has to be handwashed (and biggest waste of money IMO) so I usually just use the Noritake for company too.

I use the plain white for everything. I use the plates and bowls. I really like the wieght and feel of them. They go with everything.
I've been having lots of problems with chipping though.

wow
that is some pretty stuff
Do you microwave (like reheating leftovers) on your corelle?

I'm from the Pfaltzgraff thread too. I bought a set of Corelle once to give my Pfaltzgraff a break. I really didn't like their pattern choices, but I bought one anyway. Somehow I managed to break a bowl. :confused3 It shatters into a million little sharp pieces. I got rid of it after a few years since I hated to pattern. Still happy with my Pfaltzgraff & pattern after 21 yrs although I don't use it every day anymore. It is in my china cabinet on display and I use the serving pieces very often.

I find Corelle's patterns very trendy and don't feel the patterns stand up to time. Durability long out lasts the pattern. Marketing ploy?

My mother bought herself some Corelle dishes since we've had the same plates for almost 8years! She got them at Kohls so i dont know if that makes any difference on what kind of product you get but she got a different colors of a dark solids (dark green, purple, red, yellow, orange, and blue). And she is NOT fond of them...they dont fit in the dishwasher....so no one wants to use them!:rotfl: We can put the salad plates in the dishwasher but the color from the plates edge rim is coming off! I told mom she should of gotten Fiesta...

I've had the Corelle Abundance pattern for more than 10 years. It is our anyday dinnerware. I purchased extra dinner plates, bowls and tumblers over the years - I think we broke 6 or 7 of the original 8 glasses and lost a few bowls and a plate to breakage over the years.
I also have a few Callaway holiday pattern luncheon plates-same as the regular Callaway (ivy) with a red ribbon. We have those with the Abundance in the cabinet and use them anytime too. They are a little big bigger than the Abundance luncheon plates, and we used them rather than the big dinner plates.

We got Corelle last fall, after we re-did the kitchen. Our pattern is "squared" the plates are trimmed with a pattern of squares in brown light blue and lime green (very retro). We use them 99% of the time and I love that they take up so much less room in the cupboard.

I do have fancy Royal Albert Moonlight Rose china for special occasions. I have that thanks to DH's grandmother who insisted we pick a china pattern after we got engaged; so we flipped through the Sears catalog and quickly picked the one we both like. We got 2 place settings for our wedding and one set at Christmas for a few years (once we had 8 place settings, I told her that was enough), then she gave us the teapot and creamer/sugar bowl. It is a pain because its hand wash only, but I like it for special occasions, and washing a few plates is no big deal. DH picked out and bought us a fancy cutlery set a couple years ago to go with the china.:goodvibes

I'm from the Pfaltzgaf thread too ;)
Have had that for 23 years. But it did replace my Corelle that I got when I got married...yep in the 70's. Green pattern.
DD took it when she moved into an apartment. She still has it. The only think I always hated about it was it shatters into shards....very sharp ones when it breaks. I did have that happen several times.
The Pfaltzgraff, for me has only just chipped.

I have fine China for special occasions. Inherited it from mother.....from the 40's. I love it. Colored schemed by dining room around it. ;)

This is my 2nd set of Corelle dishes. I bought this one about 2 yrs. ago and I love it. They aren't heavy, don't take a lot of room in the cabinet and in the dishwasher. :thumbsup2

I have used Corelle since I got married in 1990. I am on my 2nd set since then, bought about 9 years ago. I only got new ones, because I wanted a new pattern. I love Corelle and will never use anything else!! They are light and durable. I can't comment on the other part, as no one ever eats at my house, except maybe for the holidays. I have holiday dinnerware for that.
My dad has used Corelle since I was a child, and is still using the same set!
