Coraline ??

We love Coraline! My son is 5 and 1/2 and he really, really enjoyed the movie. I thought it was soo well done, and I enjoyed it as much as he did.

We did read the book to him first, and he was nuts for the book, so I pretty much knew he'd be fine with the movie. (He loved the book so much that we ended up buying him the audio book, to keep us from reading it again, and he listened to the whole thing like four times before he saw the movie.)

I will say that he loves spooky and creepy things, though. Nightmare Before Christmas is a huge hit with him, and his two favorite rides at WDW are the Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror.

I think this movie would be fine for some 5 year olds, and not so much for others. Just depends on their personality.

Sounds like your DS and my DD would hit it off well:)

My kids-13,11,7, and 5 loved it. But the 5 yo did say when the other mother's 'eyes came off. "That freaked me". They all want it see it on DVD!

I am very surprised.

I guess most kids don't really 'get' the creepiness of things. I can't even watch the commercial.:rotfl2:

I saw it. Fine for my 12 yr old.. not even close to fine for my five year old.
However, I think it really depends on your child and their personality. My 5 yr old will ride any ride at WDW.. not scared of any of them. The movie however had images and ideas that I knew he would find disturbing. I think it really depends on the child.:)

I thought Coraline was a Disney movie! Which is why we decided to see it on a whim, not really researching it first. I took my just turned 4 y/o and my brave little 7 y/o to see it in 3-D.

I loved it, absolutely loved it! My daughter had a few questions for me after the movie, but didn't have nightmares or anything. My poor 4 y/o, was hiding his face in horror when the OM turned into a spider when Coraline made her mad! And the whimpering was truly pitiful - I felt awful for taking him. I'm sure he had nightmares. For little kids, what can be more horrifying than your mother becoming a monster when you act naughty?!?

I wish I'd done my homework and not taken my easily scared, active imagination little guy. For an older child, or maybe a very brave preschooler - it's a great movie, uniquely done. I love movies with a twist and this one kept me (as an adult!) on the edge of my seat. It was great!

Well, like I said...my little guy (age 5) LOVES creepy stuff. He has a huge imagination and is just really into anything creepy or spooky. He sleeps with a Jack Skellington doll and, when I mentioned redoing his room sometime soon in more a "big boy" theme, he asked if we could make it look like the inside of the Haunted Mansion. :rotfl:

Seriously, this is a great movie. Very, very well done. It's sooo visually interesting and the music is great. And, if you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it. The audio version is awesome. My son has listened to it about a million times. We love it.

But, yeah, it might be too much for some little ones.

DD7 LOVED it and wants to see it again. It may be a little scary for the younger set but the visuals are amazing. The only thing that concerned me was it maybe embarrassing the little boys with the acrobatic old lady with the pasties on :lmao: My DD laughed hysterically at that! :rotfl2:

My kids loved it and I don't know why. It looks scary, really. So, maybe it depends on the kid if he/she wants to see it.

My 7-year-old niece loves The Corpse Bride, so I thought she would be fine with Coraline. Unfortunately, she found way too creepy. Apparently, the idea of the 'other mother' waiting to steal children's eyes was too much for her. We saw it at the drive-in and she hid under the blanket for the majority of the last half of the movie.
