Coral Reef Question...

From reading reviews, it seems as though CR is on the upswing food-wise. I'm hoping that is the case. I am thinking of having DS's birthday dinner - or lunch - there during our March trip.

Can anyone who has been there tell me about portion sizes? DH and I are not really big eaters and sometimes will order only an appy as a meal. That land and sea sounds quite tasty! Would it satisfy as a small lunch?

Thanks,

Tracie

IMHO the only thing that CR has going for it is a big fish tank. The food is average and the service during our last 2 visits has been poor.

We won't be going back.

We ate there last November and had a great experience. The desert was especially tasty. I don't think the portions were that large though. We are heading back next June and definitely will eat there again. pirate:

we enjoyed our meal there:

Just dined at CR 2 weeks ago for the second time. We were a party of six and other than the 20-25 min wait for our table, the experience and food were great. We had a great view of the fish also.
We tried a variety of dishes, steaks and fish. We did order an appi oop, and for $13 got 2 shrimp and 2 bites of steak on skewers. Would skip that next time. My DH did say that he was hoping for more menu options.
We would eat there again.

On my trip two weeks ago, Coral Reef was my second favorite dining experience. So yummy and actually filling even though the portion didn't look huge when it came out.

Not sure about the appetizer, sorry.

I really enjoyed Coral Reef on our visit there, but I don't think that land and sea would do the trick unless you are a really small eater. As someone said above, it's no more than a few decent-sized bites! Don't let that stop you, though, try it and see if you are one who loves it or hates it. Then come back and tell us! ;)

Coral Reef is a family favorite of ours. We've been several times and have always enjoyed the food. The portions are a little smaller, though we've been on Disney Dining and never need large portions! :lmao:

We are leaving in 2 weeks for our DS's 7th birthday. He requested the CR for his b-day dinner. We have eaten there before and loved the view! My DH is a land lubber and thought the steak was almost as good as Le Cellier. I loved the Mahi-Mahi. I'll post pictures and thoughts when we get back. I would book it and then you can always change it at a later date.

we ate lunch there last January and really enjoyed it. Had an early seating - before noon, so had a short wait for table (they were really backed up when we left, though so I'd suggest an early seating to get in before they start backing up.) We both had fish & it was very good. That land & sea appetizer is tiny...2 small shrimp & literally 2 bite-sized (small bites) chunks of steak. To put it in perspective, that app is about the same amount of food as 4 baby carrots. We were on the deluxe dining plan so the apps came with...if we'd been paying cash for that app would have been very unhappy given the price. Husband had the lobster bisque...was tasty but also a small serving - small cup.

Bill - I'd heard so many negatives about CR that I haven't even considered it in the past. But checking the reviews lately, it seems mostly positive. I'm willing to give it a shot.

Sandy - thanks for the photos. They do help.

And everyone else - thanks for the comments on the appi size. That does clear it up for me that it isn't worth the price. I was hoping that for $12 it would be a little bigger than that. Now I know.

We will be dining OOP, so I think value will be important to us. But, we'll likely have a large breakfast so maybe if we do a late lunch here, the prices will be a little more "palatable" and the portions will be plenty big. Maybe we can split 3 entrees among the 4 of us (DH, DS(13), DD (10), me).

On another note - do they still do the Happy Birthday diver and menus? Is there an extra charge?

Thanks,

Tracie

I agree. I thought the place was over rated.. I wasn't impressed with the food at all..

I didn't really care for it when we went in Sept. My dish seemed overly salty and my BF commented that his was as well.

I thought portions were just right as I'm not a big eater either, especially at lunch time and in that heat; put a pretty good dent in my entree but there was still a little bit left.
