Hi,

I've been looking at the thread with with the interior pictures of the restaurants, and I have a question about Coral Reef. I have an ADR there, and my first thought was to ask to wait to be seated right next to the tank. But do kids come up and stand behind your chair during your meal? I thought I read a thread that said that children from elsewhere in the restaurant left their seats and came and pushed between the tables on the glass, for a closer view. I saw that there is an upper level - how is the view from there?

Thanks,

KC :sunny:

I would like to know this to. You can request where to sit? I didnt know that. Is that for all TS? I would LOVE to sit next to the tank but dont really want to if kids are gonna be bumping up against us. This is our 1st time eating there. Can't wait! Aug 6, 2007 seems sooooooo far away LOL. Thats when the magic begins for us!

Here is the info I have. We dined there last week. I had inquired about sitting next to the tank. I was told originally that to arrive early for your ADR (15 minutes or so) and request sitting by the tank. Because it was my DH birthday and had actually called and spoke to someone I requested being seated next to the tank (my DH had a scuba diver come to the window with a sign wishing him Happy Birthday). Anyway, this was our third time there and the first to be close to the tank. The 1st time we were seated on the second level and the next time up at the top. Really there isn't a bad seat. Our experience beside the tank was great. There was only once where someone with kids came behind our table to take pictures and the table next to us was empty so this really wasn't bothersome. We were there around 1:30-2:00 in the afternoon and it wasn't very busy. Hope this info helps.

We have eaten here many times, by the tank and on all levels. Silly Girl is right, there is not a bad seat in the place, and the restaurant is beautiful. If you request a seat by the tank, it may make your wait a little longer, you will have to decide if it is worth it. We enjoy this restaurant, the last time my DH had done divequest in the tanks, and regaled us with his behind the scenes knowledge while we ate.

We had a table by the tank in December and a lot of kids wanted to take a peek through the glass behind both sides of the table. We had a great waiter who gently, but firmly told them to go back to their seats. :)

I have to say that I think it is weird that kids will come right up to those tables next to the tank--there's no need--the view is terrific from every level! In some ways, you can even see more if you are on the second level, since your eyes can take in more of the tank.

What's the title of this thread? I'ld like to check it out!

we always make lunch ressies for right when it opens, check in 10 minute early and request a table by the tank. A few times other children have come to stand near the tank as well, to see "up close." It's not a gaggle, but one or two. there is plenty of room between the tables. Since we're dining with kids ourselves, it's never been an issue, and it's not like there's scads of them-- a couple of wistful waifs who are hoping the diver will wave at them personally.

If it were me, I would wait for a table by the tank, which is much more up close and personal, and if any children wandered up I would smile at them, point at the moray eel, and wait a few moments for their parents to corral them. Parents almost always do. I wouldn't sit away from the tank to avoid children.

I think it's pretty natural for a kid to want to see the tank up close...that's what they are used to in aquariums...same impulse that makes people request one of the first tier tables.

I agree that there isn't a bad table in the place, but if you're really worried about being disturbed, maybe one of the other tables would be better.

I know, I probably come off like a meanie grinch, and I don't suppose I'd mind if it was one or two very small children, for a brief, parental escorted moment, but I REALLY don't want to babysit other people's children during my dinner, and I REALLY want to enjoy my own children without interruption - which is why I'm spending the money to do a TS. I think that I'm going to request an upper tier seating - that way, I'll be comfortable, I get to see the little fishes, and I don't have to worry about it.

I feel sort of bad, but at the same time, I have to be honest with myself - it would really bother me to have random children hanging around behind my chair during dinner. I'd wonder what sort of parent lets their children wander around in a restaurant, I'd hestiate to hang my purse or sweater on the back of my chair (sticky little hands, accidental knocking off, etc). I'm a Grinch, no doubt about it.

But I'm a happy, Crocs wearing Grinch most of the time :thumbsup2 !

No I understand! I dont think you came off as a grinch at all. I had dinner at Ohanas on my bday last yr and was seated near the window so we could get a beautiful view during Wishes and kids kept trying to get between our table and the window! I am a mother of two and would NEVER allow my kids to do this but I just gently asked the kids to please sit on the floor atleast so that we could also see, a waitress came over and told the kids they needed to get back to their seats, a few minutes later they came back and so did the waitress who escorted them back to their table and spoke with the parents. Again, I have no problem giving up a seat or a viewing area for a child but in a restaurants I consider it rude, not of the children but of the parents to allow this. If you do get a tank side seat and it becomes a problem I am sure your waiter will handle it..

I was wondering the same thing! We are eating there for the first time in Feb. I could understand a child wanting to go up to the tank, that is understandable! But, what is not cool is when parents let them stay there and do not tell them to move. If my child was standing right there at another party's table while they are trying to enjoy their dinner I would have him move. It is just common courteousy. They could take their child to look at the tank at another spot, or in the attractions themselves. Just my 2 cents.

truly, before anyone moves away from the tank, maybe I've been lucky, but I think we've eaten there about 10 times, next to the tank, and only once did a stray human urchin intrude upon our space. He stayed long enough to wave at the diver, and his father led him away again.

Maybe Coral Reef should have a viewing area so people can get up and take a look without disturbing others, or perhaps make it where its an adult only restraunt. Or set a rule to where no one cant just come up and look at the fishes while standing behind someone.

You're all so kind! I was sure that by admitting that, I'd be knee deep in name calling and finger pointing by now.

It all boils down to respect, in the end - I respect you, you respect me, you teach (and require) your children to respect me, I teach (and require) my children to respect you - it makes the world a better place if everyone 'plays nice', like we say after we deal the euchre hand :thumbsup2 !

Just an FYI I just called to set this up for both of my children and they said they have discontinued this. :guilty:
