Which one is a better choice for lunch? Will be for myself, husband and 3 big eater boys ages 12, 9 and 4. Thanks!

If they are big eaters, maybe Biergarten is a better choice? I'm sure that Coral Reef has big portions too though...

I've eaten at both, and we love, love biergarten! But, we love German food.
We ate at Coral Reef back before fdp and it was pretty good. But then we ate there after fdp, and it was LOUD, crowded, and the food was mediocre.
But they may have changed that now???? I don't know, just never went back. The acoustics in there are horrible for crowds. IMO.

For big eaters, I would say Biergarten. Coral Reef portions were adequate, but not generous. Especially if you are paying out of pocket (vs dining plan), Biergarten lunch is a pretty good value

Thanks everyone. I'm still not 100% sure lol but I'm kinda leaning more towards biergarten. While the huge aquarium at coral reef seems really cool I think they may like the food and entertainment better at biergarten. Decisions, decisions!!

We love Biergarten! The entertainment is great and there are so many food choices. Your boys would definitely fill up here.

We always go to Biergarten for lunch once each trip. One thing to consider, though, is that Biergarten has communal seating, so you will likely be sharing your table with another family. Personally, I'm not a big fan of that sort of thing, but we really enjoy the food and live music. Be sure to try the Bavarian cheesecake if you go. It's incredible!

There's 5 of us, just curious about how many are seated at one table?

Usually 8 seats per table, 4 per side. We've gone at many different times of the day and different times of the year and it pretty much didn't matter -- even during slow times they still grouped us together with someone. Last time we were there we were seated with a family of 4 and one other couple. So even with a party of 5, I'd say there's a chance they'll seat another couple or a group of 3 with you. But don't let that scare you off. We've never had a bad experience there because of the communal seating. I just wanted to mention it because it's often a surprise to people when suddenly they're seated at a table with a bunch of strangers. I don't know about you, but after a liter of a good German Hefeweizen, I can have fun with just about anybody! :drinking1Zicke, zacke, zicke, zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi! (If you go, you'll find out what the zicke's and zacke's are all about...)

I'm so torn between the 2 lol, which would be better for a first time experience?

They are both great for a first time experience- really, you can't go wrong. My family prefers Biergarten- they love the food and the entertainment. The kids can get up and dance and have fun. But really it is just what you prefer- they are both great!

I love Biergarten! I've eaten at both, and think Biergarten may be your best choice. My nephews (12 and 10) who are also big eaters loved it here too.

Biergarten for sure! I do love Coral Reef for a more formal dinner, but Biergarten is just fun! I appreciate how casual it is at lunchtime. Also, the fish tank is cool but it's not that captivating for an entire meal. The food at Biergarten is delicious and the service is fantastic. Plus, the dance floor is a good way to expel some energy!

Also have eaten at both. Both are fun. At Coral Reef focus on seafood, plus you get to watch the fish. Biergarten is buffet, emphasis on German food, but I'd say a little something for everyone, communal seating, and live German music. We have a very social 11 year old who eats just about anything...Biergarten for us.

I've eaten at both. They are both good. I like the little show at Biergarten. It is also a buffet, and less expensive than Coral Reef. The food is German, but there is enough that is "American" for picky eaters. The tables seat 8, so you will be seated with at least one other party. (We were seated with a Honeymoon couple and family and had great conversation.) Coral Reef is relaxing. Watching the fish is cool. Only tables of 2 right next to the tank, the larger tables are just a bit back. The restaurant is tiered so you'll still have a nice view. We never seem to get out with a bill smaller than $100 for 2.
