Hello to all you DISers! I'm toying with the idea of changing our lunch reservations from Akershaus to Coral Reef based on some of the reviews that I've read here lately. I'm torn because we originally planned to go to Akershaus to celebrate my daughter's 3rd birthday but my husband also wants to, in his words, "eat good" while at Disney. What do you all think?:confused3

Well, first of all they are 2 totally different dining experiences.

Akershaus is a buffet and the Coral Reef a menu.

Personally, we have tried both and like neither. IMHO, "not good eats" at WDW.

Perhaps another poster can help.

GO SOX's!!!

I would definately choose Coral Reef because the food there is very good. The other place is just like abuffet so i would much rather go to a menu resturaunt.

While we enjoyed Coral Reef alot and would go back, if it's your dd's bday and she's into the princess thing, you might go there. We had Askerhaus for bfast and enjoyed it, but never for lunch. She'd get more of out the princess thing probably, unless you sat right in front of the tank. We sat in a booth in the back w/ 2 4 yr olds, and they could see the fish, but really had to look and try as there was a barrier in front of us.

She might not miss the princess thing, when we took our 3 yr old, she was not so aware of princesses and eating so we didn't do any, but by 4 she had figured it out and was all about that experience!

Your 3 year old might be in to the fish too! You could even say it's her birthday and see if you could request a diver to hold a happy birthday sign!

I haven't tried Akerhaus yet, but planning on it, but the lunch at CR is so yummy (BEST tilapia ever!--also the lobster salad is so good (i don't even like lobster!))

Coral Reef. We've always had good food and dd loves the fish tank. It is a beautiful restaurant.

We love both. However, if you're celebrating your daughter's birthday, don't you think that she would prefer the Princesses? The Askherus food is very good. I wouldn't rate Coral Reef food as tastier.

Hands down, dine in Norway! Especially given it's your daughter's birthday celebration! My kids are very fussy eaters and loved the food at Akershus. Really, the food was excellent!

(Coral Reef is lovely, but is sooooo loud it makes the princess dinner seem quiet. We had a poor experience at CR...I wouldn't chance it. Try CR another time.)

If you want to "eat good" go to Coral Reef, Ive done both and
Akershus food was not a good eat in my opinion. Yes the atmosphere, princesses and all is cool, but Coral Reef is awesome, I think a 3 year year old would be really mesmorized by the fish tank

I booked an ADR for Coral Reef for our Easter dinner thinking it would be less crowded than the other restaurants. My thinking was since they don't have a special meal planned like other places it wouldn't be as popular. Besides we've never been there and after reading all this I am really glad I decided on that restaurant.

Honestly, the food at both we enjoyed a great deal. But if it's your daughter's birthday, I'd definately stay at Akershaus so she can meet the princesses. Truth be told, we all liked Norway much more than Coral Reef anyway. Your hubby will eat well there and the small one will enjoy the royal treatment.

Go to Coral Reef some other time. ;) A 3rd birthday is special.

Coral Reef is the only WDW restaurant in which I literally got sick after eating. In fact, all three of the adults came away with stomach problems after eating. This was in 2004, so maybe they changed, because a lot of people like the restaurant. I have thought of going there again, but the memory of food poisoning is just too fresh in my mind.

I like Akershus. The lunch and dinner entrees are just ok, but I like the cold buffet. I also like the Princesses.

I would pick Akershus.

I AGREE--------GOOD POINT:thumbsup2
