Copying VHS to DVD

I know there has to be some type of equipment I can buy to copy our VHS and home videos to DVD. Does anyone else do this? I don't want to take them somewhere to get them done, I'd like to do it myself. TIA!

I will try and ask DH. I know we ordered something with our new Mac that will do this but I don't know exactly what it is.

I suppose that you could purchase a standalone DVD recorder and hook it up to a VCR to accomplish the copy. That's the easiest way to do the copy.

The alternative is to purchase a video capture card for your PC and use it to copy the VHS tapes to your PC. You would then have to edit the files on your PC and then burn them to a DVD.

I have used my PC to capture some video but I have not been too satisfied with the results. Perhaps a video stabilizer between the VCR and the computer might improve the picture quality.

Either way, it is a very time consuming task.

My dh got a DVD recorder/player that has a hard drive in it so you hook your VCR or camera up to it and record the tape to the hard drive. Then you can edit and put in "chapters" and titles and stuff. It's pretty cool. And technical.
He got it at Best Buy. That's all I know. I refuse to touch in case I'd break it.

What we have is called ForMac.

To sum it up-it transfers the VHS or whatever to the computer and then the computer burns the DVD. This is only if you have a Mac.

There is other stuff out there that you can use as you can see from the other posts.
