Copying another poster..How much does average Dis'er pay for wdw vacay?

I can bring the average way down.
December value stay 7 nights for 3 w/FD and buying APs at DVC discount $2200.

May trip staying DVC using APs cost of gas to get there and food
August trip DVC using APs cost of gas and food
October fall break same
December trip same
Labor Day or 4th July weekend same

We spend a bit on soccer stuff in the Epcot countries but are past the souvenir stuff. With DVC we hardly ever eat more than one meal out a day.
We get mugs some trips but not always--depends on where we are staying and how convenient it is.

I look at what some people spend and think, that's a semester of tuition or I could buy my kid a car for that;).
Not judging, not jealous, just not my choice.

I'm never one to discuss money (especially MINE!;) ) so I will just say "a boatload!!!!!" or as a good friend (who also has a Disney addiction) put it when I booked our 9 day stay at BCV "You could buy a Ford Focus for that!!!!" which is why DH and I now refer to the trip as "the Ford Focus" around the kids because they don't know about it yet. :rotfl2:

I'm with you. I just did the number crunch and holy moly, it's a pretty penny. And that's with owning DVC. :scared:

The answer is...A LOT.

Actually, the thread the OP is mentioning was created by me as I had a student do her "budget" report in civics/economics class using a report from CNN money that stated that the average American family of 4 spend $2,000.00 a year on "vacations" (which can also include trips to see family out of state, etc) so I was curious what that amount could get you at Disney.

In North Carolina....$1,000 will get you a week in a beach house on the coast in most places...So it is interesting to compare.

2 Adults 1 Teenager average per year for the past 6 years...

8 days value resort
free quick service dining
7 days of base tickets

$2200 +/-

gas/travel food

$300

$2500 on average no sovieners

Our trip right now for October 2013 is going to be $8300 ($7300 for hotel, dining and tickets and probably another $1000 for air fare) for 3 adults, 3 yo and 2 yo.

7 Night Stay at Contemporary Theme Park view
8 Day Park Hopper
Regular Disney Dining Plan
Insurance
Flight from BWI

We are hoping for either a room discount or free dining to bring the cost down some but if neither comes out we are still going.

Last May we spent 6,900 for 7 nights in a 1 Bedroom BLT lake view room with 7 day park hopper and regular Disney dining. We had free air miles then and we didn't have to pay for either of our children for the parks and only one for air. This time both need air and one needs park tickets.

2 adults, 2 children (6 & 3)

6 nights at CSR, waterview, base tickets + free dining
$2523.00

airfare
$1200

stroller rental
$100

photopass
$99

limo
$106

supplies/snacks/goodie bags (pre trip purchase)
$250

spending budget (souvenirs, drinks, tips etc.)
$1200

total???
$5500 (give or take)

that is USD...exhange rate has been pretty favourable (from CAN to USD), in fact it's great right now but if i add in the exchange i can add another $150-$200

Here's our #'s for our Christmas trip we have planned this year for our family of 5 "Disney Adults" (Me, DH, DD17, DD16, and DD11)....

$3400 WDW Package (POR for 7 nights, 6 day MYW Base tickets, DDP)
200 Tips on Table Service meals
400 Gas, Round trip from Baltimore, MD (assuming gas prices are around $4)
300 Meals while driving to/from WDW
0 Hotel in NC on way down and GA on way home (Choice Hotel Points)
500 Spending/Shopping $$ (Max, probably won't spend it all)

$4800 Total for 5 people for a 10 day vacation ($96 per person, per day)

When we normally would go, in August, it would be about $500 less, with Free Dining (we don't go without it, since it's the best deal for our family of five), during Value Season (mid August). Not bad to go for only $500 more over the most expensive time of year.

April 2013 stay at Beach Club.

Renting points for a Deluxe Studio 8 nights $1850

Airfare $1100

Dining $1060

Tickets $1400

Total $5410 without spending $

BTW I weigh 295.

Our trips have always been at POP and between $1500 and $2500 depending on length of stay, not including spending money (we honestly don't buy much aside from snacks). However, on our next trip we're staying at OKW for two weeks. All together, including spending money and about five planned ADRs, it will probably be around $7000. I let the kids pick the resort this time, since we could afford it, and they're really looking forward to staying deluxe for the first time. They are teens now and so we spend a lot more time hanging out at the hotel than we did when they were younger.

Is there an "average" Disney vacation? Long weekend offsite vs 3 weeks Club level at the GF including flights from Australia, going to be a bit of a range!

FWIW, at 1.6 USDtoGBP
$5800 flights for 4 (that's economy!)
$6500 for 14 days in a 1 bed at OKW, 14 day UK "ultimate" tickets, Free Dining (yay for small mercies!)
Tips, souvenirs, drinks, shopping etc - hopefully < $1000

271lbs, which is 7lb less than 3 weeks ago :goodvibes

Is there a prize? :rotfl2:

My last two trips were 1998 and 1981, so a fair bit of time to save up between each :).

We just got back on Sunday (September 23) from a 10 day, 9 night stay at Pop. Free dining, 10 day hopper passes with water park and more option costs two adults a total of $2,400. Not including flights and tickets to two MNSSHP parties. I would guess that bumps us up to a grand total of $3,000 for two of us. We rack up points all year long on our Disney Visa cards so we pay nothing out of pocket for gratuity and goodies in the gift shop. We tend to go with around $300 total in gift cards and leave with nothing to spare. Same pricing was what we paid for our September 2013 trip. Yay for bouceback offers ensuring our free dining deal!

We spend 4100.00 for 3 adults/3 children:
8 nights at Pop (non preferred)
5 day base tickets (magic your way package)
free dining upgrade from QSDP

Add to that:
350.00 MNSSHP tickets
300.00 gas and food driving down and back
200.00 OOP tips for TS meals
souvenirs, dessert party, arrival basket, pirates league, F&W
and we end up spending around 7000.00.

One day we'll stay for a LOT cheaper when all our kids go do Disney on their own dime LOL. Then again, we spent around the same last year and had 5 children traveling with us....so inflation is keeping up with our children's growth or something LOL.

Our 2008 trip (8 nights Poly, DxDDP, 9-day PH tickets) was around $8000
Our 2010 trip (7 nights CBR, DxDDP, 8 day non-PH tickets) was around $5000
Our 2013 trip (7 nights YC, DxDDP, 8-day PH tickets) will be around $7000

And those all included airfare from Colorado. It IS a lot of money, and yes, there is a lot more that we could do with that cash, but vacations have become a major priority for our family. We do without a big house, fancy clothes, big-screen TV, etc. so that we can afford it.

On years that we don't go to WDW, our big vacation tends to be closer to $4000, which helps us save a little for Disney.

our nov. package will be:
2 adults and 12yr dd
8 nights @ pop
free qs dining
2 day base ticket package - $1500-upgrade tixs when we get there to a 6 day - $329
we drive down - gas - $200

I'm currently pricing out a trip for Dec, 2013. There will be 4 adults (my parents are going with us) and at the time of travel, my kids with be 5 and twins will be 3.

At the beginning I booked a two bedroom suite at GF w/ MK view, deluxe dining because of all the character meals we will be obligated to do with my young kids, RPC for five nights. $18,000 (just under)

I backed it up and priced out for two deluxe queen rooms at GF/MK view, RPC, Deluxe Dining. $15,000 (a tad over)

Then, one of my H's clients gave us tickets for WDW for free. :goodvibes

So, we started looking at DVC rental. For five nights I can rent points and stay at BLT, MK view for $3600 (ish) and get the Deluxe Dining for abt $2500.00. We can't book this until January so, we are really hoping to be able to do the latter. It's insanely expensive to go to Disney the way we like to do it especially with the number of people we are traveling with but, the renting points helps immensely.

Our last trip (our first w/ just our oldest) in 2011, we stayed a CR tower, deluxe dining and MK view and it was just right at $6000 for the five nights/6 days that we stayed.

I've never understood why people want to know what other people spend on their vacations. What does it matter? It's not like we're all doing the same thing, right? While we're at it, how much money does everyone make? And how much does everyone weigh?

I guess for the same reason they do it on the DIS wedding board. I mean, if you don't ask, you'll never know. I think they are very interesting. We are internet strangers-who cares? It's not like I'm trying one up you or something-ya know?

:thumbsup2

I think of it as the Dis equivalent of "reality tv" :rotfl2:

Our upcoming trip 30 days away-2 adults/1 Disney adult/1 child
3 nights at AoA-LM and 10 nights at CSR-$1418
Airfare: free with Southwest Visa CC points
8 day hopper/waterpark tickets:$880
Food/tips/souvenirs/misc:$1500 (rough estimate)
So probably between $3500-$4000 for 13 nights

:rotfl: So true! We are now planning a trip in may, first go by boat (queen mary2!!!) from southampton to new york, get the train there down to florida.
Then spend 2 weeks in the wilderness lodge...

It will cost more than our car :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

But it will so totally be worth it!!:cool1:

But even without the boat transportation for us last trip cost as much as 2 weeks discounted rate in the wilderness lodge! About 3k$...
Ah well, just save up and cherish the memories. We'll still be remembering these trips when the car has long gone.

This is a copy from another FUN thread about the average family only spending $2000 on a vacation.
QUOTE]

Wow...Our tickets alone cost significantly more than that! And they weren't even annual passes. Then add in room and dining plan and souvenirs and activities. I wish it only cost $2000 - does that count? Then we could go every other month. ::yes::
