Copper Creek or Poly?

I would strongly recommend staying at a few DVC resorts prior to owning. Some resorts just feel like home and others do not, you need to find your "home". I know for us we thought we were going to love certain resorts and when we stayed there we didn't feel the magic and were glad we didn't own there.

If you are really having trouble deciding, I agree with others that it is probably best for you to rent points and stay at both on a split stay to see where you prefer. We stayed in a 1BR at CCV in December before buying and it made us 100% sure of our decision. We weren't interested in Poly as a home resort because we primarily bought DVC for the larger villas, but there are plenty of Poly lovers who are very happy with the studios. It's hard for any of us to point you firmly in one direction or the other since it's a very personal decision and based on your own preferences, vacation style, family, and finances.

you are right that Poly is cheaper than CCV with the due and buying direct at 220. But no one knows how much poly's due will be higher in the future.

Consider for example that in October (Choice Season) 75 points at CCV will get you 5 weeknights there. Multiply times the 7.26 annual dues =$544.50. Those same 5 weeknights at PVB in a standard view studio require 90 points. Multiply times 6.20 annual dues = $558.00. It costs more in annual dues plus requires purchasing 15 more points at $220/point. Now if you're just buying a fixed number of points to use wherever then the dues may matter more but the point requirements at the resorts play a factor if you are deciding between 2 resorts on where you plan to stay the most.

But I'll ask this - why are you buying direct? You can get PVB points for less resale if that's where you'd really like to own. And you could get 100 PVB points for similar or probably even lower cost than the 75 CCV direct points. But you also might do well to check out a number of the resorts on your next trip. Rent points and stay at both CCV and PVB and also visit other locations.

Thanks a lot. Here is my thoughts to share:

1. Buy where I want to stay - I will pick Poly
2. Buy where you wouldn't mind staying - I will pick Poly and Copper Creek
3. Buy the best deal - I will pick Copper Creek.

I do want to have the DVC benefits by buying at least 75 points direct. So I am massaging the idea of buy 75 direct from Copper Creek and buy some small contract at Poly to save money. Any issues with this idea? Thanks,

When I was considering contract size, the biggest concern I had with smaller contracts is if you have to bank/borrow points for a stay and then need to cancel it, those points are stuck in that UY. So having a single larger contract gives you more flexibility with cancelling and banking the points to the next UY. It depends how you plan on using the contracts. But I did go the way of smaller contracts for multiple home resort advantage!

A small resale contract doesn't give you much. If you want several nights per year at the Polynesian, you'll need more than 25 points there. Buy your 75 to get you the perks if you need that. But buy resale to get you enough points to do an annual vacation for several nights at your favorite resort.

You do realize there are a whole lot more resorts than just Polynesian and Copper Creek, right?

Thanks for pointing this out. However, I am afraid that I did not get the part why cancellation make the smaller points stuck in that UY. Thanks,

This was my concern: Say I have a trip that requires 75 points. If I have a 100 point contract I can book the whole trip with current UY points. If I need to cancel, I have the option of booking another trip within the UY, but can also bank the points and use them in the next UY (giving you more flexibility). This can also come in handy for Fall Frenzy when you need to book close to 11 months out. You might want to reserve a room and decide later if you will actually take the trip... less complicated if you don't have to borrow points.

If I have a 50 point contract, I would need to book the trip with 50 pts from the current UY and borrow 25 pts from the next UY. If I cancel, now those 25 pts are stuck in the current UY. This is fine if you can rebook the trip within the current UY (and the room you want is available).

So it's all fine, but there's definitely more flexibility with a larger contract.

Thanks for the explanation.
