Frontierland
In Frontierland, when entering from the fort gate and walking towards the river, look up to the left and you'll see the Davy Crockett Coonskin Hat Company, F. Parker, Proprietor window, which is a tribute to Fess Parker and his Disney work.

I'm sure i've walked by it dozens of times.....but don't remember it (probably rushing to get in line at BTMRR or have a Tres Leches cake at El Zocolo)....but does anyone have a picture of this store in Frontierland?

Or can someone take one? With the passing of a true Disney legend.... (see SS Columbia's thread:)

.... I'm getting all misty eyed thinking about playing with friends in the early 60s with my "coonskin cap" on & staying up on Sundays to watch Davy Crockett on Walt's "Wonderful World of Magic".

Thanks. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the great pics Kayla's Mom. :thumbsup2

Those pictures look recent. I'm thinking that it wasn't a one time honoring of Fess, but that the Coonskin Cap store will be on the street in Frontierland now & in the future.

:)

I found this one:

fessparkerwindow.jpg

Caption: "Fess Parker received a rare Frontierland window dedication at Disneyland in late 2004, as seen above. He was also one of the earliest Disney Legends honored back in 1991."

Elsewhere I found the date of the ceremony was Wednesday, December 15, 2004, when "Davy Crockett turns 50...."

And a little trivia tidbit about the store name: "Parker's tribute window is located in the former “American Buffalo Hat Co.” facade, newly renamed the “Crockett & Russel Hat Co.” The new store name also pays tribute to Georgie Russel, Davy Crockett's on-screen sidekick played by the late actor Buddy Ebsen."

My DH was sadded to hear of his death. He remembers his brothers and himself rushing to watch Davy Crockett with Fess Parker. My DH grew up to be as tall as Fess 6'6", and he is a man's man. Wonder if this TV show had anything to do with it? :goodvibes

I found this the other day.

STATEMENT BY ROBERT A. IGER, PRESIDENT AND CEO, THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY, ON THE PASSING OF FESS PARKER

"Like many kids growing up in the 50's, Davy Crockett was my first hero, and I had the coonskin cap to prove it. Fess Parker's unforgettable, exciting and admirable performance as this American icon has remained with me all these years, as it has for his millions of fans around the world. Fess is truly a Disney Legend, as is the heroic character he portrayed, and while he will certainly be missed, he will never be forgotten."
