What....Ok so if you are lucky enough to get the Wii you need games, controllers, charger and now I read a cooler for the system?? I am thinking that this is getting way to expensive. Is this true. DD wants one so bad for Christmas but it looks as though she will wait until after but now I am thinkning I should look into other systems . The Wii seems to need lots and lots of extras. Do we really need something to keep the system cool......

Unless you plan on putting the Wii console in an enclosed area, you don't need the cooling station.

And as for other 'must haves' the only thing you really have to have in a nunchuck. The games that come with the Wii are great starter ones, and they allow up to 4 people to play with one remote and nunchuck.

Good lord, as if Nintendo's not getting enough of our money.. they have to go and invent new accessories. Of course they say you need it, they want you to spend more! We've had our Wii for a few months now, and it's doing just fine at room temperature, thanks.:thumbsup2

We also don't have a charger (I think someone mentioned on another Wii thread that this was a charger for the controllers?) -- this must also be something new. We have a battery charger and rechargeable batteries, so replacing the double As is just fine.

That was me I think. I did buy the charger. I have rechargables for my camera, but don't really want the girls grabbing those, or I would never have camera batteries.

I have a question---Does the Wii have to stand upright, or can it be on it's side? I have to figure out where to put it.

It has a holder for it to stand on its side but i think it can lay flat.
I have had mine for 6 months and the only thing I suggest is another remote..get the wii play game that comes with a controller...
I also have 2 sets of rechargeable batteries which will save you on batteries if it will be played a lot...
Love the wii..

Thanks OP for asking the question, I was wondering if I should buy that also.

The Wii console is very small, about 5"x7". I was really surprised at how small it is. We have the charger too. It was worth the price I think and it gives the kids a spot to put the stupid controllers so I am not tripping on them:lmao: .

We have the WII and I haven't even heard of a cooling station for it?! We have 4 controlers and 2 nunchucks. The initial cost of getting all that is expensive, but I am glad we have it :)

you do not need a cooling station. The Wii runs very cool. It is not the overheating brick that the 360 is..

Don't worry about it..

In my opinion, what you NEED when you get a Wii are games and additional controllers. Everything else is extra.

Nunchucks - we have 2 (one that came with the system and one additional one that we bought). We RARELY use them. An extra one would be nice, but could wait until after Christmas.

Chargers - this is a nice-to-have that is REALLY nice to have. Ours came with 2 rechargable batteries and can charge 2 controllers at the same time. As another poster said, you could just as easily use any rechargable battery. But the controllers do go through batteries quickly if you play a lot, so this is a good investment.

Cooling station - never heard of it. We've had our system over a year and have never needed one. Skip it.

I forget the link and can't find it now, but there was a chart put out showing average heat produced by all the main consoles. The Wii puts out so little heat it was rediculous when compared to the Xbox, PS2, PS3, etc. The Wii put out something like a little less than half of the heat of the next closest competitor.

Moral of the story: if your Wii overheats, there was a problem or you really, really, really need to not play it for 72 straight hours without any breaks. :)

If you play it normally - a few hours at a time or so - and then turn it off overnight or when not in use, you should never need a cooling fan for it (as long as it has decent space around it - don't cram it in between lots of things like a book - a few inches on either side and behind it should be plenty.

Also, to whoever asked - you can lay them sideways, stand them up, or put them in the little plastic stand they come with - your choice depending on where you can fit it. We've had ours laying flat and standing up at various points the past year - no ill effects or differences either way.

Nintendo does not make either of these items. 'They' have not invented or produced any of the accessories mentioned here except the nunchucks and controllers.

And I like my wiimote charger. For me its much having it devoted to that one duty (since we play so much) instead of hunting down rechareables. but that's just me.

The wii mote charger has been out for over a year, but I've just started seeing the cooling stations.

I quadruple the motion. The cooling station is NOT needed. If you have an X Box 360, I recommend installing a second air conditioning unit. LOL

:lmao: and a couple of extra fans to blow the cool air directly onto the console!

Just be thankful she hasn't asked for a pony. The extra "hidden" costs on that gift will kill you.
