I have not but have seen a number of duck taped coolers at baggage claim.

Are you planning to try and keep things cooler in the ice cooler OR are you just using it to transport items? You can't fill it with ice (or anything that might leak) and send it through as checked luggage. I'd start by checking with your carrier to see what they allow.

I've not used an ice chest before to double as luggage, but I've seen them come down the conveyor belt before, so at least some airlines allow it. Just remember that airlines aren't necessarily gentle with your luggage, so if you use a flimsy container or one that cracks easily, it might end up damaged.

I've used coolers and taped them shut. I only put in dry stuff and do not try to keep anything cool. The basic rules is it can be no larger than the largest suitcase you can check. Check your airline's web site. Also make sure the weight does not exceed the maximum weight. If you are traveling on a carrier which charges for baggage, you will be charged for it.

You can use dry ice, but there are regulations on dry ice (amount in lbs) and how the container can be sealed.

We once checked as baggage a foam cooler from Alaska to IAD filled with fish we caught. The fish was originally packed in dry ice until it was frozen quite solid. The dry ice was removed for shipping. The fish arrived in perfect condition, even after many hours flight time.

Yes, you can check a cooler with items inside, even items which are liquid. You can also use dry ice, depending on the rules of your airline.

I've traveled with someone who checked a cooler. The airline we flew did it but had them sign a form that basically said it was not covered like normal luggage is... if lost or damaged. It worked out fine.

If it were me, I would pick up a soft sided cooler and pack it in my luggage assuming you want to use it at Disney. You can not take a hard sided cooler into the parks. Good luck!

FOr the amt of money you will pay to ship the cooler to/from, you could rent a car for one day and it would be cheaper. Rent from Alamo, Avis or Dollar and you can drop if off in the DTD area hotels. Alamo has a site at Disney while Avis is located at Hilton which is a 5 minute walk from DTD. Dollar is located at the hotel across the street from the DTD bus stop.

Or, as another alternative, just place an order with Wegoshop. They offer a great service with a very reasonable price. They take the stress out of travelling. Hope you have a great time!!!!!!!

I checked a hard-sided cooler once going to WDW, and at the time it worked out well for us. We took one of those plug-in coolers before POR had mini-fridges. We loaded it with cereal and other dry goods, packed it in its original box, and taped it closed. When flying home, we loaded souvenirs in the cooler. But this was also before the days of luggage fees.

I have a soft sided electric cooler which I used as my carry on bag last September. I duct taped the cord to the outside and packed my carry on items in the inside. I was a little freaked out going through Jet Blue security, but they told me that they see electric coolers all the time! We stayed at POP (pre-fridge) and it worked like a charm! I was amazed at how well it kept, OJ, pop and beer cold!

I thought about it, did a small cooler inside a suitcase with few 1 liter bottles and Capri Sun. Then read about a womans wedding photos that were soaked and souviners from water, she though may have been rain....first thing I thought about was it potentially could be a traveler like me that had water traveling.
They stack the entire plane luggage, they are on top of each other, all the pressure of the weight on the traveling luggage. THat is why bottles of shampoo can burst.

Soooo last trip I orderd waters, sips, turkey bread, some extras, from Garden Grocer, and took a collapsable cooler.
Now that there are free fridges at Value I don't even worry about it. They switched over the week we were there.
But, I still take my collapsable travel cooler, this week I just got my Rachel Ray which is a bit to big for Disney days, but great for summer travel. My smaller hard sider fits about 9 cans of soda that I p/u at ride aide, so it would not leak at the park.

thanks for all the input...i'm going to go with a soft sided cooler. I'm not worried about keeping the stuff cold till we get there so don't have to worry about ice. But did forget about the weight limit so i will have to watch out for that. thanks again!!
