We started to rent the refrig. at first, but they are so small and getting a bit more expensive than the $5.00 that we paid when we fist started. We then bought a plug in cooler and it worked just fine, and we do find some uses for it at home. I guess I would opt for the cooler if I had to make the choice. If you are just looking to cool milk, we once bought a hard shell bag, then put ice in it. Of course there are a few downfalls, like changing the ice all the time and such. We also used it as another way to get souv. home.
Good luck

Does the cooler work with things like canned sodas and lunch meats. How cool does it keep the food?

Thanks for the help

I'm too frugal to spend the extra money on a mini-fridge in a hotel room, I'd much rather spend it on souvineers. Instead, we always use coolers. When driving, it's no problem at all to take a cooler. However, when we fly, I have a large hard plastic cooler that I take as "checked luggage" - empty, of course, with a luggage strap around it to keep it closed and a luggage tag outside. After arriving in Orlando, we take advantage of the free "grocery stop" with one of the limo services to buy our perishables. I pack all the non-perishables in our suitcases. If you don't want to take a cooler on the plane, you could always buy an inexpensive styrofoam cooler in any grocery store, pharmacy, or gas station, and just throw it away at the end of your vacation. :)

Our kids are assigned the task of replenishing the ice every morning before we leave for the parks and every evening as soon as we return to the room.
