I'm a little confused, so I need to find out for sure if we're allowed to bring canned soft drinks on the ship as well as coolers. , I just read in the DIS Forum about someone bringing a collapsable cooler with wheels on it, on the ship. One other question, 2 years ago when we did the 3 day Magic Cruise we were in a category 6 stateroom. We had a refrigerator in the room but it was not plugged in so being lst time cruisers we weren't sure if we were supposed to use it or not. On April 20th we will do the 7day cruise in a category 9 stateroom so I wanted to ask about the refrigerator ahead of time. Can anyone help me with these 3 questions?

also - how do we get these cans of soda through the metal detector?

DH and I were on the 4-day Wonder last September. On our way from the airport to the port, we stopped and picked up two 12-packs of Pepsi cans (and a few other last minute items).

We took Tiffany Towncar from the airport to the port. The driver stopped at a store for no extra charge.

When we got to the port, a porter checked our bags curbside. He gave us neon-orange stickers to place on the soda boxes. I think we filled in our last name and stateroom number.

When we went to our cabin a few hours later, all of our luggage was there, and both 12-packs.

We also packed a soft cooler in our luggage. It was nothing big...just big enough to bring a few cans of soda up to the pool.

We also read on these boards that the in-room refridgerators are not that cold, so we kept the soda on ice.

Aunt dianne , kelly and others.......i saw a very nice collapsable cooler at sams for less than 20 and it looked like you could keep several sandwiches and drinks in there at one time..it would fit in a cooler...we may get one and share. i heard that there is an island that doesnt have soda drinks( we are going to buy that mug for 30$) but that it does have canned cokes..have you heard of this?

Castaway Cay does not serve fountain drinks which is what is used to fill your Soda Mugs on the ship. They do use soda in cans on that island to fill your mugs. Kathy

thanks, I was afraid we would rack up charges on cokes all day at the island....thanks so much

This is no doubt a silly question ... but, well, this is ME we're talking about so I'll ask it !:) Has anyone ever checked soda in baggage on the plane? Like, checked baggage? I'm guessing it would explode, but I read in a post that someone did it with success. I'd pack it in a dedicated hard case, double trash-bagged, in with the snorkel gear, (maybe pad with 1 or 2 disposible diapers just in case LOL.)
We're using Disney's transfer deal from red-eye flight to hotel to ship, so I don't think, despite all the eyelash-flashing I can muster, that the driver would stop off for soda's. (Not that some other passengers wouldn't take advantage of it too:p ) Oooo:sunny: idea here... I could stage a mild mutiny and get the bus to a grocery store... hummm.
Any less rebellious ideas out there??

Castaway Cay filled our Soda mugs when we were there. I had read prior to cruising that on Castaway Cay if you had a mug you would get cans of soda but we were able to fill our mug.

You are allowed to bring a soft sided cooler and drinks on board. We brought our soft sided rolling cooler filled with drinks. They made us take the cooler as a carry on which was no problem. They doo have to go through the metal detector but it was no big deal.

You can use the fridge in the rooms. They are not really a fridge but more of a cooler. It takes about a day for drinks to get cold. Your stateroom host will keep your rolling cooler filled with ice if you ask.

We brought another cooler- lunchbox size - and took our canned drinks up on deck by the pools and also to the beach at Cataway Cay. The castmembers did not care.

Yes, you can put soda in your baggage that you check on the plane - however, it's a lot of weight, so if you can avoid this and purchase your soda in Florida, it's usually a little easier to haul around. The cargo hold on the airplane is pressurized, and the only way you'll have a problem with a can exploding is if the can is punctured or crushed by something else in the luggage.

From what I've seen recently on this board, DCL does not want/allow hard-sided coolers (such as styrofoam), and you cannot simply (any longer) check your soda with your baggage in its original box - it must be packed in your luggage, or you must carry it on.

If coolers are allowed by the pool can they be filled with beer/wine coolers etc?Or do the CMs get upset?

As far as I know, all of the rooms have a fridge. However, some people have mentioned that theirs didn't get very cold. Ours was plenty cold on our cruise, though it did take some time to cool down after loading it up.

We took our smaller cooler- holds about six drinks- to the pool. The CM's said nothing. We had soda and beer. I don't think they mind as long as you have canned drinks not glass.

We also brought our own soda on board. Packed it in our carryon. We brought it to the pool and the CM's really don't mind at all. We always made sure we cleaned up after ourselves and threw out our containers when done.

Even though it's vacation, I think it only right to take care of your trash. You should see what some people leave laying around their pool chairs. I guess they figure they are on vacation so why should they clean up after themselves!!!!!

we were just on the 3/23 cruise, and in our cat 6 room the "cooler" was indeed a refrigerator, but it seemed the temp. was turned all the way up, so it did take a while for sodas to cool down. but it worked fine. i saw lots of the small soft coolers being used by folks with no problems. i do think disney frowns on checking in cases of soda and hard coolers now. you can buy soda in st. maarten and st. thomas. soft drinks really should be free (they are at sit-down meals), then we wouldnt have to go thru this!
