I bought a lovely marinaded Carne Asada from Trader Joe's today, and when I came home, I noticed the directions are to put it on the grill until it reaches a temp of 165.....well, it's freezing cold out and our grill is covered in snow ;)

Can I put this in the oven? If so, what temp would you suggest and for how long?

Broiler? Should I try to cut it up & cook it in the skillet?

Thanks!

Oven won't be too great; the meat is "wet" and will sort of stew in it's own juice. The broiler would definitely be better if you have an actual broiler pan (sort of a grill top thing that sits over a shallow pan to catch the drippings). I'd personally probably try a skillet but the marinade will likely stick and make a bit of a mess. Good luck with it. :wave2:

Thank you! Have you cooked this specific Trader Joe's meat before? Did you slice it prior to cooking?
No, not at all; we don't have Trader Joe's here. Gonna take a guess it's flank steak? If so, no - do not cut it up before you cook it. You want to carve it across the grain like this after it's cooked and rested: (Sorry the picture is so big.)

Thank you! After I posted, I looked at the package and noticed it is already thinly sliced lol. I hope mine comes out as yummy as that picture!

I would go with broiler to. They sell disposable broiler pans now if you don't have or haven't cooked yet.

Do you have a cast iron skillet? Always cook ours that way.

Yes and usually when reading how to cook a steak in cast iron the terms screaming hot is usually used, but thinking for such a thin steak that may cook it too quickly.

I don't do mine screaming hot. Hot enough for a quick sear. Thinner steak 1 minute on each side, filet 2 minutes and then a roll sear.

We just send the teenager out to shovel around the grill, then I cook on it despite the outside temperature. The only time I don't grill is if it's actively sleeting because it never seems to stay hot enough while the sleet hits it.

I'd broil it if I were cooking it inside.

I would use the broiler with the ability for the juices to drip down. Otherwise it's going to be too wet any mushy. I've made those before and I wouldn't bake or saute.
