Cooking in a Studio

You can also do toasted cheese by laying the sandwich across the top of the toaster. I did it and it worked fine.

Also helps rescue a left over sandwich from the poly where the bread got a little soggy. I placed it across the hot toaster and in no time it toasted up nicely.

I pack a little tin foil in my luggage and it acts like a pan when I want to toast something on the toaster. I just lay the foil across the top turn the toaster on and heat whatever it is up on the toaster.

YUM yes these little cakes are the best if you are traveling and need a fix for your sweet tooth. And oh so much cheaper than buying a slice of cake at Disney.

Have you ever had the Betty Crocker Warm Delights?? MMM-mmm good! I never buy them at home, but threw a bunch in the suitcase and sad to admit this...I looked forward to that dessert all day long! And then I filled my suitcase with souvenirs going home.

DW prepares a soup, chili, or pasta and sauce for our trips. We warm them in the micro-wave for lunch or dinner if we are in the park. Also, we take the Mickey Waffle maker for breakfast. Snacks are either fruit or packaged food that is easy to carry.

We always do a grocery run to stock up on easy breakfast items, deli meats, cheese, olives, fruit, and WINE. We love having a late evening meal on the balcony of a variety of deli meats, cheese, olives, fruit, with a glass of wine. Yum!

Here's a map for grocery stores. The Publix south of AKV is actually a couple of miles west of where it appears; there is also a Super Target directly south of that Publix.

I can't wait until Sunday - OKW studio. I'm on the Quick Dining Plan, but still plan on a few snacks to have in the room

Wine, Wine, and more Wine!

Great thread. I like the idea of the electirc frying pan. I was going to bring a small George Forman grill - but you can't really fry an egg on that, or make tacos, etc.

Since we fly & our Owners Locker is already FULL the fanciest cooking I do in a studio is bacon & egg mc muffin sandwiches!:rotfl: I found these things at Bed, Bath & Beyond called "poach pods" that work pretty well in the microwave. They float in water so I bring a shallow plastic bowl that I can put about an inch of water in so I can float them. Just spray them with a shot of Pam & put the egg in them. It takes about 6 min. for me to poach 3 eggs in the microwave. While they're cooking I toast English Muffins. I slather on a little butter or margarine & put a slice of cheese on. When the eggs are done I heat up a few slices of that pre-cooked bacon in the microwave. :thumbsup2 Voila!! Bacon, egg & cheese mc muffins!

They take a little bit of experimenting with for timing etc. since every microwave cooks diff. but they're the easiest egg poachers I've found.:thumbsup2 I also find that sometimes I need to dab the tops of the eggs with a paper towel to absorb any moisture that may collect during microwaving before I dump them out. But they come RIGHT out of the pods without sticking.:thumbsup2

Dinner ideas:
Bagged salad mix
Veggie tray (for snacks and to supplement salads)
Frozen fish (cooks great in microwave)
Steaks and burgers (out on the grill)
Omaha Steaks frozen meals (nice, high quality stuff for families; we had their beef stroganoff)

We like our electric kettle for boiling water. It would be a great thing to bring to a studio. You can do alot with boiled water.

DW and I have only stayed in a studio once and it was for a three nighter. We drive so we took everything we need. Our general MO is in room snack bfast, TS meal for lunch and a sandwich in the room for dinner. Some of these ideas sound pretty good though.

We usually bring:
Sodas, water, beer & or wine. Ham, sliced cheese, bread, hot dogs, buns, mustard, mayo, ketchup. Poptarts, granola bars, pringles.

I like the idea of pre-preparing a few meals and freezing them, I am going to have to look into that! One pot meals like soups or stews would probably work the best and be the most simple.

I have been a DVC member for over 10 years and I never thought about bringing an electric skillet. But, the thought of having some fresh (non-nuked) eggs for breakfast and (non-ironed) grilled cheese is attractive :thumbsup2.
