Ok I need help. I do most of the cooking in the house expect for the sauce. My dh is the "eyetalian from brooklyn' and this is his speciality. Ok NowI am having 20 people on sunday for september birthdays and my Dh informs me that his football league starts on Sun (dont even get me started on that one). SO guess who gets to make the sauce. I have to make past ahis family will not eat anything else on sundays. So does anyone have a good but easy recipe (my dh claims it is not that difficult) thanks
Tara

You mean your DH won't give you HIS secret recipe??? I'd ask him as sweetly as possible to tell me (or write down) exactly how he does it.

Since it is HIS specialty, he should make it or as the above poster said, tell you exactly how to make it.

Of course, if he is like me, he doesn't have a recipe. I start the day before and just keep adding till I like the way it tastes.

PM me, I have my mom's sauce recipie written down. I have it in a Word Document that I could email you if you want.. And he's right, it's not hard.

I start with a jar-like Paul Newman's sauce- and "tweak" it with extra onions, mushrooms etc.

Your dh can make it on Saturday, refrigerate it overnight, then put back in the pot and warm it up on Sunday. Sometimes it's better that way, gives the herbs a chance to meld together. You can even freeze it!

I start with several large cans of Hunt's Tomato sauce and a crock pot. I then add about a cup of Merlot, lots of fresh snipped basil, chopped garlic, and a few shakes of gravy master.

To that I add browned hot italian sausage, including whatever grease is left from cooking. (sounds yuck, I know.) My DH's italian grandmother told me to get all the flavor and juices from the meat that I could.

I then make up my meatballs with ground sirlion, etc (every time I make meatballs, they turn out different because I don't write anything down, and I add in whatever I feel like at the moment.)

I fry them up, then add it to the sauce (or "gravy" as my in-laws call it.)

Then I cook it in the crockpot on high for at least 6 hours!

I do make the meatballs and drop them into the sauce when it is simmering on the stove all day.....stir the balls gently and let them simmer too........yummy.........

Thanks everyone. Unfortunatley my dh doesnt get home until around 1100 on sat, so there is no way he will make it then. He told me that he would write it down for me but I dont think he follows a specific recipe. I make the meatballs and we do put in allthe excess from the pan. Dan, a neckbone from what/ He told me just call my mother she will make it but I really dont want to do that. I was thinking of making it tom and If it sucked I would do it again on sun

Ask Dh to make his sauce on Saturday. It's always better the next day anyway.

There are many excellent ready-made tomato sauces out there. I often make my own meatballs and then add the tomato sauce from a jar. Delicious.
