Cookie tins on the plane

Going to surprise in-laws for xmas and I 'am bring down homemade treats. I know you can bring food on the plane but will they allow me through security with 6 tins of food in my carry on??? Nothing is liquid at all. Cookies,bars,etc.

You should be ok, but don't wrap them in case they want to open them.

Heard a news story on this the other day- answer is yes! They have to go through x-Ray and not be sealed so if they need to open the tin to look inside.

TSA does not have any restrictions on bringing food on the plane. As others have noted, they want to be able to look at anything you are bringing on board and its going to be difficult for their scanners to see inside your cookie tins so expect to be asked to open them.

Yes, there are food restrictions going through security. Cookies are fine. The X-ray machine will have no problem with cookie tins.

Like others have said you should be ok but be ready to have each one opened at security, especially if they're in a metal tin. My daughter had no end of grief with a set of art pencils in a metal container. She had to dig them out every time because they couldn't see what was inside.

Been there, done that No problems but as others have said, expect to be asked to open them, I make my life easier by putting them on the top of my things in my carry on bag so when they ask I can simply pull them out instead of rummaging around in my bag, I have even taken them out of the bag before going thru the scanner and placing them in a bin by themselves. I have had some TSA agents threaten to confiscate them though.........but just joking about it. I flew with a canned ham once (pre 9/11, it has liquid/gel in it, not sure that I could now) and they said it was nice that I bought them lunch!

Perfect this is what I wanted to hear. I don't care if they open them at all. I will have x3 and DH will have x3. Thanks again for answering so quick.
