My family has visited both and love both DL and WDW. In my opinion there is not much comparison they are each their own parks and we have a different experience at each.

I don't "get" all the competition between the two. It's o.k. to enjoy both WDW and DLR. And the Disney cruise ships too.

And Disney Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong as well. And soon Shanghai. Of course it is OK.

But many people feel afraid they will not enjoy some other Disney destination because of their connection to their first Disney love. That is at least one reason why the discussion happens. And if you read the OP folks are responding to the OP which asked for reasons to go to DLR. It was not competion at all.

I want to go to Disneyland so much, just cause I want something new! I love WDW, but I want some new experiences! I can tell you that some things will be better at DL and some things will be better at WDW. But I want to see them before I can judge. I want to see the overseas parks too, but one step at a time.

That is exactly why I want to go to WDW! I've never been and right now we are finally planning on going in June of 2014. I'd like experience WDW too but it will cost a lot more than a trip to DLR so trying to save up. Of course my dream trip would be to tour all the Disneylands of the world...

I am trying to convince my dad to go to Disneyland with my mom and me. I have never been, but my mom really wants to go with him and me. I need no convincing as I am a huge Disney geek , but he believes that the World is better because it is bigger, and closer to where we live . What arguments can I use to get him to go there? Thanks!

In addition to visiting Disneyland, you also get to visit sunny California!

WDW fans care more about the resort experience.

DLR fans care more about the park experience.

Both views are valid. Both views have weaknesses.

Sure you can talk about rides. Rides are inside the parks. That is a DLR way of thinking.

WDW fans will talk about immersion and "whole vacation experience". That is a WDW way of thinking.

Me? I talk about Disney magic pure and simple. Both resorts have Disney magic. It comes across differently at the two but it is still magic at its core.

DLR is home to me. But WDW has just as much magic. It does not have the nostalgia for me. But it does have the magic.

I've been to the world about 10 times and my family is planning our first ever trip to the land! We are sooooooo excited. We are from the East Coast and have never been past Texas in the western direction. So just going to California will be an adventure for us!

It seems like there is a lot more information out there for planning WDW trips (or perhaps we just know where to look). Does anyone have any great advice for making our first trip to Disneyland magical? I'm fairly certain once I go I'll want to stay out there

good for you ! DLR is such a fun Mother/Daughter trip. Very easy if you aren't too used to traveling by yourself . Hop in a taxi from John Wayne airport, get wished to DL, feel perfectly safe and adventurous all at once !
