Convincing a Worlder

Instead of trying to convince him, I would just instead focus on a trip with just the two of you--you and your mom. Those can be the the best trips! I speak from experience. Ask your mom if this is a possibility.

Our family had only been to DLR (3 times for them, 10ish for me) until last fall when we made the excursion out to WDW. We stayed at the Dolphin and did 7 days in the parks and a few days over at Universal. It was a wonderful experience, but we all declared that DLR is hands down a better park for us. The key reason we find DLR to be superior is the ride to distance ratio. We go to RIDE as much and as often as we can. At WDW there are only a couple more E ticket rides but lots, lots, lots more walking (and busing) to get between each one. We enjoyed the additional shows, dining options and smaller rides offered at WDW but they were not worth the extra traversing of the world to get from point A to point B.

Oh, and (most importantly) there is no Monte Cristo sandwich at WDW and you cannot eat your dole whip INSIDE the Tiki Room. Those two are practically dealbreakers for me.

Irony works better when it is clear that it is irony. Typically on a forum like this folks will expect an emoticon to give them enough of a hint. I did not see the emoticon and assumed there was a reasonable chance you were serious. I was 50/50.

Further, folks do say things on this forum like what you said and are serious. It is hard to tell them apart.

:cool2:

Would have been nice don't think, I wonder sometimes.Hope all is well.

Did you not hear that back in the 70's, they air-lifted the entire park to Orlando? I literally meant that there was NOTHING to see in Anaheim. At this point, I question if there is even physical matter there, it's just a big vacuum where Disneyland used to be, which is weird because that violates like 87 different laws of physics. That is literally how much Walt hated Disneyland, his fury is so profound that it disrupts the known physical world to this day, almost four decades later.

Anyway, after plopping it down in Florida, he immediately set about to dismantling the things he hated most, like the Castle, and that god forsaken Matterhorn replica -- he hated that thing most of all...I know this because of a deep and abiding personal relationship with the entire Disney family and having seen numerous aerial amusement-park transplants in my day.

So, to bring it back 'round to my original point! Yes, WDW is the absolute, hands-down, singular choice for Disney Park entertainment in the known universe. I mean, I wish it could be some other way, I really do, but that's just not the world we know today. It would be a sad, sad thing for the OP's Dad to wing it all the way out west -- or anyone else for that matter -- just to discover there was nothing there to see in the first place. Not anymore.

i·ro·ny /ˈīrənē/

Noun: The expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.

I understand what the word means, you posted a statement that had no clue that it was ironic. We do have people come here that post statements like yours and run..can you see why I posted what I did. Too me it was like pulling out a toy gun and pointing it at me...

Yes but...

WDW fans care more about the resort experience.

DLR fans care more about the park experience.

Both views are valid. Both views have weaknesses.

Sure you can talk about rides. Rides are inside the parks. That is a DLR way of thinking.

WDW fans will talk about immersion and "whole vacation experience". That is a WDW way of thinking.

Me? I talk about Disney magic pure and simple. Both resorts have Disney magic. It comes across differently at the two but it is still magic at its core.

DLR is home to me. But WDW has just as much magic. It does not have the nostalgia for me. But it does have the magic.

As a child I went to DLR four times and WDW once and loved both. Flash forward 20+ years and I returned to WDW with my own dc for two weeks, staying at the CBR with free dining, rental car, waterparks, DisneyQuest, La Nouba, etc., and had a phenomenal experience. One year later we went to DLR to check it out and stayed at the PPH & HoJo, thinking it wouldn't be as exciting as WDW. But we loved every minute of that, too. We were surprised to find quite a few things at DLR we thought were better than at WDW, and to realize that there isn't as much overlap between the two coasts as we originally thought. We are returning to DLR again this October and perhaps to WDW next year. For us, each is loved and appreciated for different reasons, but I wouldn't choose one to the exclusion of the other.

I am trying to convince my dad to go to Disneyland with my mom and me. I have never been, but my mom really wants to go with him and me. I need no convincing as I am a huge Disney geek :earsboy:, but he believes that the World is better because it is bigger, and closer to where we live :sad2:. What arguments can I use to get him to go there? Thanks!
Walt Disney World is thrilling, but Disneyland is charming. pixiedust:

I'm a DL local/AP and have been to DLR over 300 times, and it is near and dear to my heart. My family and I went to WDW last summer for the first time. All of us felt the actual rides themselves are MUCH better at DLR than WDW (except I must admit Winnie the Pooh was a bit better at WDW :P) Not having Mattahorn and Indiana Jones is a big hole, but we loved Rock-n-rollercoaster and Expedition Everest. IMO the shows at DLR rock WDW in every way. Illluminations doesn't even come close to WOC. DLR Fantasmic is better, but I must admit I loved being able to sit in an amphitheater in WDW instead of standing in a crowd of people. The fireworks are better at DLR, but I loved the way they played off the castle in MK. I also absolutely love Epcot and felt if CA had Epcot I would never have to go back to WDW. With that said, I think anyone who enjoys Disney needs to experience both parks at least once. They may both be Disney parks, but they are quite different. Tell your dad that it is actually a very different experience.

Has anyone noticed that the OP asked this question two days ago and then never came back? And we gave so many good answers too. :sad2: I hope she checks in. :)

My family has visited both and love both DL and WDW. In my opinion there is not much comparison they are each their own parks and we have a different experience at each.

IMO the best thing about DL is that it's close to so many other great things to see in SoCal. You could even combine it with a trip to Vegas. What middle aged dad doesn't go gaga over Vegas buffets?

You know what my mom kinda said the same thing when she was in California she was all like if only DLR had EPCOT I would move to CA in a heartbeat. I occasionally catch her house hunting in CA but shes always like I wouldnt be able to go to EPCOT like once a month like we do :lmao:

Oh come on and have some GIRL power !
WDW is a family vacation for us, but my DD and I always do girl trips to DLR..........

no need to convince reluctant y chromosomes.

Obviously your mother has incredible taste. She's a woman after my own heart. Maybe I'll move to FL just for Epcot :rotfl: As far as her not moving to CA because of Epcot I'm sure the incredibly high cost of living in CA versus FL has nothing to do with it ;)

Lol high cost of living and convincing my father who refuses to jump on the CA and DLR bandwagon he just doesn't know what he's missing lol :)

Oh, I checked in, and all your answers are amazing! I'm gonna use them all and if they don't work, I'm going with my mom, or maybe just me! :cheer2:
