OK... So on our last trip to Epcot, I have to admit after standing in line and getting all the way up to the point of getting into the capsule... We took the chicken escape. :lmao: Everything was good up to the point of the video warnings about don't look left or right.. Don't close your eyes, etc... Then the sweaty palms and frantic heart beats started. :crazy2: Is it really that bad of an experience?

It was for me. However, now that they've got the tamer green side, I'd be willing to give it another shot, since I assume it was the spinning that did me in. (I do remember liking the take-off.)

I did go on it a few years ago but didn't see the sign about not closing your eyes. I don't do "visual" rides well, I get terrible motion sickness and closing my eyes is the only way that I can cope with it. I even have to close my eyes on Soaring (at the point they fly over the aircraft carrier). Despite all this, I didn't find Mission Space too bad but unlike Soaring its not worth the motion sickness for me. Been there, done it, not going again.

If you're wondering why I do these rides, its all part of being with my family. Meanwhile my DH hates the roller-coasters, which I like. His face was a picture the first time we went on EE and he realised that he had to go backwards :rotfl2:

NARM

if you are prone to motion sickness then don't bother.

but if you are not you should be just fine.

i don't get motion sickness from rides and i've looked left, right, up down, and closed my eyes during that ride and have not felt sick.

the spinning part is less intense than the gravitron ride so if you've ever been on that and have not gotten sick then you should be fine.

I rode it before they had the green side. I am a thrill junky and ride all the thrill rides without a problem. HOWEVER, Mission space made me really sick. I was nauseous all through the ride, dizzy, and just waited for the ride to end so I wouldn't be sick in their. I never get sick on these rides, NEVER! But after this one, I was shakey and had to sit down immediately. Then after leaving the ride area, I was sick and dizzy for over an hour!!! We couldn't go to our lunch reservations. It really ruined the rest of the day for me.
I don't know if it was the turning, barrel roll motion or not. But it did not work for me, and I can ride Anything at all. No, I won't even try the green ride now, I was that sick.
So, forewarned is better than being sick in my opinion!

I don't get sick on any rides, and love thrill rides. But after this ride and having done it more than once (over different trips) and both levels. It's made me sick each time after. I need to sit for awhile after riding it and feel just sick overall afterwards for awhile. Just not worth it to me

It is my understanding that the ride has been tamed down quite a bit since it first opened.

I thought there was nothing to it. Green side was so boring it wasn't even worth doing. Orange side was a little more interesting but not much. I guess it does throw some people off though.

The first time I went on it and when I go on it after a very long time inbetween rides (meaning months) I get really nervous. I'm not claustrophobic or get motion sickness much at all but the orange side makes me SO dizzy, I feel like my head is rolling in all directions and my heart pounds a lot and I have to breathe really slowly.

So I'd say if you're worried, don't do it. The green side you should definitely be able to handle. I still like the orange side because it's interesting to have those feelings (albeit scary too) and after I go once the next time isn't as bad.

I think everyone should try anything not illegal or immoral at least once. With that said - even on a scopolamine patch I got viciously ill and had a panic attack on this ride (orange side). I'm not prone to panic attacks, don't have claustrophobia...I can't tell you what exactly happened but it was unlike anything I've experienced. It was something much more than motion sickness. You might love it - some people do.

It's the only ride I will never try again.

Go on the Green side. I went on both. The Green side is way too tame and only for the those who don't like roller coasters. I went on the orange side and followed the rules about not closing my eyes or removing my eyes from the scene. If I had been ill of the stomacn. I would have gotten more dizzy or sick. I felt ride move at the end of the take off more than in the first one.

Well, I won't encourage you b/c MS is I think the only thing I've ever ridden that I wouldn't get on again. Not because of motion sickness but because of claustrophobia! When that capsule closed I knew I was in trouble. They do have cold air blowing right at you, which helped. I was with my young kids, so I didn't want to freak them out. I had to close my eyes and try really, really hard to imagine I was someplace else ("beach, beach, beach, hear the waves? feel the sand??")

I was immediately okay when it opened, but I will never put myself through that again. I didn't even notice if the capsule moved or not!

I get motion sickness very easily.. I ride the green side and have no problems.. I got a wild hair last trip and decided to ride the orange side and I was saying some not so nice words and that was just in the beginning of the take off.. The orange side is way worst than the green side so if you get sick easily stick to the green side..

My exact same experience. Never again!

Thank you for everyone's input.. I do believe that this will remain the only ride that we will never experience at WDW. :yay:

Went this past November. My husband and two boys (7 & 10) rode the orange side. I did not ride, but waited for them on a bench near the exit. My husband walked out and his face was PALE. He felt awful for at least an hour. This is a guy who has spent 3000+ hours in a military turbo prop airplane, many rides in extreme turbulence. But, the rest of the week, my husband rode all of the roller coasters in the parks with no problems.

My kids were both fine. The 10 year old gets nauseous sometimes in the car and he loved the ride. Maybe it's not for those of us over 40! (I rode the green side 3 years ago and it didn't make me sick, I just didn't like being enclosed.)

It is my understanding that the ride has been tamed down quite a bit since it first opened.

Even the Orange Side is tamer then when it opened. I went on it the week it opened to the public and it was such a cool ride. I love motion sims and centrifuge type rides and this was an E Ticket for me. Now that it's been calmed down, it's more of a C/D ride. Green side is a B/C for me, but I ride it anyway as my BF doesn't handle the Gs as well as I do.

So you ride Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror, and Rock n Roller Coaster, but you haven't ridden Mission Space? I won't ride any of the rides that I have mentioned. I rode Space Mountain when I was a kid though. As an adult, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is about the most I can stomach. However, I didn't have any problems on Mission Space Orange. It was really fun. Maybe because it's only going up and not dropping, like the others, I don't have a problem with it. You should at least try the green side.
