My sister and I are planning on going to WDW for a few days before Christmas. Right now we have ressies at POFQ. DH keeps suggesting that I upgrade to GF as a Christmas surprise for my sister but when I compare the costs . . .

What's going to make it worth that extra money? Should I go ahead and do it all - go for RPC?

We do want this to be a "girly" relaxing trip with shopping and spa treatments.

I know, I know my DH is fab!

Thanks for all the advice!

For a girly trip??? GF can't be beat! Never done the RPC, but I'd LOVE to...if your husband thinks it's a good idea, girl, go for it!!!!

I would also upgrade to GF. We stayed there in Jan. and it was beautiful. Very relaxing - even though we had our 2 children with us.
Have fun!!!

Keep watching for discounts in the fall. Our AP rate at the GF was the same as rack rate for POFQ.

GF is so wonderful at Christmas. I think with a girlfriend, I'd definitely do High Tea, regardless of if you decide to stay or not at the GF.

I agree with the above posts!! GF has beautiful decor, high tea, live music in the lobby, and the SPA!!!!!! Perfect for your girlie trip! Go for it!!!!!

I have a disenting opinion. The GF is nice, but IMHO, NOT worth the money.

Personally I think the holiday decorations at the BW and AKL are the nicest in all of WDW. The BW is very traditional, the AKL is very exotic.

For the price of a lagoon view room at the GF, you can get a concierge room at either of the others. The service at both the BW and the AKL simply can't be beat--we think it's MUCH better than the service at the GF.

Wow Anne! You really made me think. I looked into it and we could get a concierge room at BWI or AKL for the same price and at the Poly for less! I've really been interested in BWI for a long time and it might be nice to stay there with my sis because DH prefers not to be right in the middle of things, so it's unlikely that he and I would ever stay there.

Thanks for all the great replies! I still can't decide what to do but it is so hard to commit to spending all that money for GF concierge when there are so many wonderful (and less expensive) options!

I'm with the previous poster that feels GF is not worth the money.

We have stayed there and feel it is over rated as well as over priced. Rooms at Poly and Contemporary are significantly larger.

We have visited WDW over 30 times and stayed at GF once. That should tell the entire story from our standpoint. In fairness, our stay was within two years of their opening. Perhaps things are better now.

Our hands down favorite is the Yacht Club, but our children are now grown and out on their own, so the rather adult atmosphere of YC is not a concern to us.

Bottom line with us is that we spend so little time in our room awake that we have had good trips even staying in the moderates. POR (Dixie Landings) has the most lovely grounds anywhere on property.

I also found the GF overrated. It is beautiful and has great Monorail acess to MK but thats where it stops..for us. We had poor CMs with bad attitudes that made for a less then enjoyable stay. I have not stayed at RPC but for a time on these boards it was getting very bad reviews....that may have changed.

We LOVE AKL! It just can't be beat. However I have never have done any of the spa services. I wonder which resort has the best Spa. I believe that they are "farmed" out to local companies???

This past December, my husband and I stayed at several resorts to experience Christmas. We stayed at Poly, GF, AKL, and ASMu. We also visited ALL of the other deluxes.

Our favorite is by far GF. The others are beautiful as well, but there is just something about GF. We spent so much time in the lobby!!

Is the GF overpriced? Well, all the deluxes are overpriced in my opinion. Does the GF have a reason to be priced higher than the others? In my opion, definitely.

Okay, Leighe, not to add to your confusion, but Anne is making me reconsider my original opinion too. My sister and I have been fantasizing about a girls-only trip to BWI in Concierge for awhile. You could easily still take advantage of the Spa and Tea at GF - and frankly, with only adults, you might enjoy being able to walk into Epcot more than taking the monorail to MK.

Confusing...but such a nice problem to have!!!!!
