I'm having the same problem as some of the others on this board and am having difficulties in figuring out what to get 10 year old dd for Christmas. She mentioned a Nintendo DS, but already has a Gameboy Advance. Is the Nintendo DS really a leap to a new level in portable gaming? Do you any of your kids have the Nintendogs and what exactly do they do??

I figure if I'm going to purchase this, I need to move fairly quickly before they are sold out and can't be found!

Any feedback you can provide on the Nintendo DS would be very much appreciated!!

Happy shopping everyone!:sunny:

My DD is 9 and got a Nintendo DS for her birthday the beginning of the month. She loves it. She did have a Game Boy and the nice thing about the DS is it still plays the Game Boy Games too. My DD loves dogs and has the Nintendogs game and plays it all the time. You feed them and walk them, play with them, teach them tricks and take them to competitions (actually I like to play with them too!!!). You "earn" money and can buy new houses, toys, supplies and accessories and more dogs.

Hope this helps!!!

My DD11 got the Nintendo DS last winter & got the Nintendogs game when it came out last August - she loves the game & wants another of the Nintendogs games for Christmas. DS7 wants a Nintendogs game too.

Thanks! Guess dh & I will head out to Circuit City later today and check them out.

I had two arguments to get the more expensive game for my DD: 1) it's the latest and the coolest, and she'd like to have it, and 2) she really wants the Nintendogs game.

I decided against the purchase. Her Gameboy SP is in perfect condition, and I don't necessarily want to encourage her to discard something perfectly good just to get something a bit newer. I decided instead to get her a digital camera, which she has requested numerous times.

I do wish they made Nintendogs for the SP though.

I am totally with you on this. DS really wants the DS, but I refuse to buy it for exactly the reason you mentioned. There will always be newer technology and the kids will always want the latest and greatest, but I can't (and won't) keep up with that demand when the "old" systems are still in great shape.

Decided against getting a DS even though Nitendogs would be a type of game my 7 yr old DD would love. I've read that they were going to come out with a Dogz and Catz came for the Gameboy Advance, but I don't know how it would compare to Nitendogs.

I must disagree with the posters on the SP not that far from the DS. The leap is like going from the original NES to an N64. The SP is strictly 2d while the DS is almost entirely 3d.

I was at Best Buy last week and there were only 3 Nintendo DSs on the shelf at that time. I got one for my 14 year old DS. I had wanted to get him an Ipod but I don't know enough about them to make an intelligent decision. Add to that his birthday is in December. And, if that isn't enough, he brought home information about an 8th grade class trip to Washington/Gettysburg in the Spring and the deposit has to be in by December 6th!!! Boy this month is going to put me in the poor house!

They are a gaming revolution.

I recomend the game Nintendogs, its all the fun a puppy but with no real doodoo.

Also it plays all GBA games.

I bought one with the nintendogs game for DD 7. I sure hope she likes it!!!

I am (almost) embarrased to admit- I am 32 years old and received the Nintendo DS as a gift from my DH and I LOVE it!! I have the Super Mario Bros game and I have a hard time tearing myself away from it at times! :rotfl2:

Well, my DS9 is asking for the DS and it is the ONLY thing he wants. So it looks like we are going to get it for him. He even said when his brother said he wanted an SP for Christmas, he was thinking, why can't he just have mine? I have such a sweet boy. :teeth:

My DD really wanted a Nintendo DS for her Bday but like someone else posted she already had a perfectly good GameboySP - Well the little stinker got enough money for her bday to buy one - I told her if she bought the DS I would buy the game Nintendogs - Well she used her bday money to get the Ds and I got her the game and she LOVES it!! She got it in October and she plays it constantly - It is a really cute game!! She got the version that has the Sheltie pups - they are so cute!!! This is really popular with the kids right now - you can put your DS on Bark mode and the kids can exchange stuff through the wireless connection with other kids - so if you have one version of the game but someone else has another you can get pups from each other that are not on your version - Pretty cool!

For Xmas I bought her Animal Crossing for DS - both of my kids love Animal Crossing for Gamecube so I am sure it will be a winner for DS!!
