Convince Me, People...Should I Get Memory Maker?

One more question.....I don't understand about downloading them for free but having to pay to have them printed. You can't just print them on your home printer?
I think the photo's are protected so you can't download them to print until you pay the fee.

The Memory Maker is "redeemed" when you process the photos for download. Until then, you can view them online with watermarks, but not save or download in any way.

Our last trip had 700+ photos. Lots of great shots, never had to worry about our own camera/phone. I loved the ride photos best. Those memories are worth far more than any other purchase we made on the trip.

You can view your photos for 30 days online for free. You can't download them / save them to your computer / print them at home until you order them. That's why if you are on the fence, you may decide to wait until you see how they turn out.

DH and I loved being able to get our photos taken together and not impose on others to take our picture. We went with extended family on our last trip and we all agreed that MM+ was a must do for our trip this time. Even if we don't stay together as a group we can still enjoy their experiences on the rides thru MM+. Last trip we had over MM photos taken so it more than paid for itself in just ride and group photos alone, not to mention the Character Meal photos.

So if I were to do this, I would purchase MM after I got home and viewed my pictures?

Did I misread above where people were dating you could make a photo book without paying for MM?

If I didn't buy MM in advance how do I get my pics into my account? Is it a photopass card like the old days, or can I still swipe my MB?

there is some kind of 3 day rule, that if you order it the first day of your holiday, you do not get the first 3 days (pretty sure it's 3) photos included in mm.
i am sure if you got a great photo, you could access it but seems like you would have to pay for it separately?
that is how i understood it....

It depends on a lot of factors. I got it once and I was happy with it, but I won't do it every trip.

I highly recommend it if:
  • You don't go very often
  • It's a milestone trip/celebration
  • You don't want to carry a camera
  • You want on ride photos and/or videos
  • You are doing a lot of character M&Gs
  • It's also a better value if you are in a larger group - everyone linked on MDE's photos will show up
If you don't mind carrying a camera and only plan to get a few photos (say in front of the castle, at the front of the parks, etc), and don't mind asking the photopass person to take a photo with your camera, you can save yourself $169. That's what we do most trips, but next summer I'm taking extended family and it's a special trip so I will get it again for that one.

Ok now I'm confused. I thought me paying the $170 last week got me the photos. But now I have to pay more money to download them??

Downloading is included in the $170 you paid. You can download them to your computer and look at them and share them on social media sites, Flickr, upload them to Shutterlfy, etc etc etc. If you want to send the photos to a professional printer, you will obviously pay for those prints.

If you purchase Memory Maker prior to your trip, it costs less ($30 savings). Per the Disney web site, "If Memory Maker is purchased at the advance purchase price, any photos taken within 3 days of the date Memory Maker is purchased are not included and must be purchased separately." So, if you decide to wait till you are on your trip, you can pay the extra $30 and then get all your photos. You can also purchase your photos individually, or use the Memory Maker website to make a photo book (or other photo products).

If a PhotopassPhotographer or a ride takes your photo and your MagicBand is scanned, you have a Memory Maker account whether or not you paid to download all of your photos. You can view them and buy them individually - or make photo products, like a book. There are also still PhotoPass cards that you can link to your account - or just use exclusively, if you want.

Ok, great. I was lost for a bit. Now that makes sense. Thanks!

For me the cost was a little high but when I take into consideration the cost of the whole trip I decided it was something I just wanted to have. The memories of the trip are important and it is also nice to be in some of the pictures to.

Yeah, me too. I simply don't like asking strangers to take pictures of us, so I'll end up not doing it. And come Christmas time it's so hard to find a picture that my husband is in since he's the photographer of the family. I made the decision to splurge on it and now I'm hoping my husband will be free to leave his fancy camera at home.

Same here. I asked somebody to take a photo of a friend and I once and they did...then dropped the camera on the concrete ground - it was completely broken...and only the first day of our trip. :( I haven't liked handing my camera or phone over to anybody since!!! Much happier to let the PhotoPass Photographers do their job! We always use a MemoryMaker photo on our xmas card - the image quality is really good.

Photopass photographers aren't at the character meals correct?

If there is a photo op before the meal, that photo will be taken by the PhotoPass Photographer. There are not any character meals where photographers walk around from table to table with the characters, though.

That had to be terrible. Sorry that happened to you. I worry about that happening also or someone running off with my camera or phone.

Yes, 100% yes! We loved all our photos from NYE, so this past June we decide to buy it for our 8 day trip and it was worth it! Just the two of us but we had 300+ photos. I had my really nice camera with me but we ended up never using it because it was too annoying to carry every day. On top of the tons of great photos they got, they were eager to use our phone cameras too & got great shots there. It was nice not having to rely on strangers to take our photos (and also not drop our devices) and hope the photos were good. We absolutely loved it and said for all future trips we are getting it.
