Convince DH's family to do DCL

I would love to have a vacation... any vacation that someone else paid for. I would do what your in- laws want, and then do a cruise on you own dime. I don't know how old your in-laws are, but WDW isn't something that's easy to do when you get old. We did Disney world 5 years ago with my mom. She's had a stroke since then and isn't capable of doing it now. I'm glad we got the opportunity to experience it with her.

If I was in your shoes I wouldn't put the pressure on myself to plan everyone's itinerary, why on earth would you want to put that much pressure on yourself?

My wife and kids and I are doing a Mediterranean cruise next year and my parents and moms two sisters asked if they could join us. I told them no problem but I wasn't going to play tour guide, if they want to join us for some things great, if not no big deal. The only thing I did was link our reservations together so we can all have dinner together. I think you could do the same type of thing with your DH family. That way if you're concerned about the heat, do the parks in the morning and spend your afternoon at the pool, then you all can meet for dinner or something.

I can't stand having my entire trip planned minute by minute, they might like to freelance too. These boards are full of uber planners but I don't know anyone outside of here that plans their vacations that way.

This of course is just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Well I am here with an update. I gave MIL some info about how much each would be. It would be about $12-13k for 4 night cruise(plus airfare), or $11-12k for 7 nights at WDW(value resort, 4 days park tickets, no airfare) and we will be flying. She said she would prefer a cruise and thought it would be closer to $20k!!!! So said we could do both!! She said maybe we could do a 4 night cruise, 2 days at park. OMG!!! I am so excited, maybe my mental telepathy worked!!! Thanks all for your good vibes, I think it's gonna happen, she just has to convince FIL now!!!!

Glad to hear that! I think that will be the best of both worlds! Good luck!

Oh, and when traveling as a group, one thing that has worked for us is to look at excursions/rides/attractions separately (not sure of all the ages going, so there may be some logistical stuff or some parents having to suck it up, lol) and then compare. Try and have everyone come up with their top 3.

When we did the med, there were 9 of us. We sometimes went all together. Sometimes in 2 groups, sometimes, in 5 groups. No one had to be a travel guide, and this way, we all got to do what we wanted. Also, no hard feelings this way if it is discussed at the first, we will eat dinner together, but the rest of day is on our own, unless we have same wants. It worked out well and gave each of us the autonomy that we wanted. Of course, we were all adults, so could go on our own if we wanted. Also worked for us in the parks, for a group of 4, 2 would go ride the rides, 2 of us would do whatever we wanted, and had a meet up spot.

Lucky you to be able to go with a big family like that and have them pay for it! I'm totally jealous! My in-laws would never consider going on a cruise, cuz MIL doesnt want to be "stuck" and FIL doesnt want to go on a cruise with no casino and my parents are too cheap to spring for either. So, I am totally jealous that you get to do both! Have fun planning!!!!

Why not plan for Christmas break. It will be busier but cooler and the lines more tolerable. Honestly, even if someone was paying for my vacation, I wouldn't want them "planning" it. Just tell me my resort and hand me my tickets and leave me alone. Maybe plan one character breakfast for the whole family but that's it. This is why I refuse to go stay at my inlaws summer place. They plan everything out for us and I hate it. And feelings are always hurt when I say that we don't want to eat hot dogs at home but would like to go out somewhere (because to me, it isn't a vacation if I'm cooking three meals a day!).

**Oops, didn't see your update before posting!**

I would love to go for Christmas, but DH works for UPS, December is blocked until the week after Christmas, and the same person takes that week after every year. LOL
I love to plan Disney trips for people, I have OCD vacation planning issues. hahaha
I will be their tour guide for MK for one day and if they pick another park I will too. It's a once in lifetime for them, so want them to see it "right". We have ben so many times, have DVC, so our trips are more relaxed now. We like resort days, etc. We will do parks first, cruise after, to get the full relaxation thing in. :)

The father in law got an inheritence that was totally unexpected. This allowed them both to retire after working very hard jobs all their lives, they totally deserve it. I'm so glad for them. Th father in law isn't too keen on vacation, they never really have, the mother in law(she goes away with her sisters sometimes) is demanding he take all of us. Once he goes, he will love it, just grouchy about it. And DH's twin sistrs(35 yo) are kind of a hot mess, so maybe they could use the family getting together.
