converting mini-dv tapes to dvd

My old camcorder is busted, and I am left with old mini-dv tapes that I would love to convert to dvd's. How do I do that? And, if there is no way, can I send them somewhere or is there a national place that will convert them? I live in the burbs of Philly, so if anyone knows of a place please tell me. Thanks!

My friend has this same problem! She went to Best Buy and they told her there is nothing she can buy herself to convert them....unless she buys another mini-dv camcorder. She brought her tapes to Sam's Club and it cost $20 per tape to convert them to DVD's She has decided to try bidding on a used mini-dv camcorder on Ebay to convert her tapes herself (through their DVD recorder. She has over 40 tapes....and at $20 per tape that is alot of money!!

we must be living parallel lives. This just happened to my camera a few weeks ago and now im kicking myself for not putting them on dvd sooner. I'm interested in seeing what others have done. I definitely don't have $20 for each of my 20 tapes!

There are side by side units out there that you can put the mini dv on one side and a dvd on the other side. How much the unit cost I do not know. But I know that they exist.

New ones are expensive....but when there are new ones....that means you may be able to find used.

Can you borrow a friends mini dv camcorder, to download them to your comptuer then burn them onto dvd's??
